Did you imagine that you’d be a mom at the age that you became a mom?
Nope! Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to be a mom. I fantasized being married at 23 with at least a couple kids by 25…..but God had other plans as I stumbled my way to motherhood almost a decade later than I thought. When I least expected it, I became a Stepmom to my bonus daughter, and at 37, hubs & I just had an “ours” baby in the midst of this pandemic. Needless to say my journey in motherhood has been nothing like I imagined, but when does life actually work out exactly as we planned?!?
Describe your children in a single sentence.
Our oldest is incredibly perceptive and empathic…and our newborn is well…VERY vocal at making sure he lets us know what he wants!
How have you changed as a person since becoming a mom?
Hmm…I have definitely gotten better at time management now that I’m juggling the kid’s schedules, blended family life, and running multiple businesses. Learning to control only the things I truly have control over has also been a continuous work in progress. The biggest change is probably being confident in speaking my truth, and not being worried about what other people think.
What has been the hardest thing about being a mom?
Well the first thing that pops into my mind is how HARD breastfeeding is since I’m in the thick of the sleep-deprived, hormones all over the place, postpartum recovery phase with a 3 week old baby.
The constant worrying about all the things….as I try my best to make sure everyone in the fam is taken care of also weighs heavy on me. The hardest thing though about being a mom on the grand scheme of things would probably be navigating my emotional triggers and working through all the limiting beliefs that hold me back from being the best version of me.
What do you love most about being a mom?
Knowing that I get to play a role in raising up little humans who will one day go out and make a difference in the world.
Do you have a favourite family activity?
Our family loves to travel! Before the pandemic we would be taking at least 1 trip every month, whether it be a local road trip or hopping on a flight somewhere. It’s actually been really weird that we haven’t been on a plane in close to a year.
What advice can you give our mama readers?
Don’t be afraid to ask for AND accept support! We weren’t meant to do this motherhood thing alone, so welcome all those blessings with open arms.
