TruKid in town

We’re always on the lookout for products that are safer for our kids, ourselves and the environment. TruKid all natural skin care for kids made it onto our radar when we were researching our safer sunscreen column because their SunnyDays Face & Body Stick was highly ranked for safety and efficacy by the Environmental Working Group. As soon as TruKid became available in Canada we snagged ourselves some.

The creation of a California mother of six, who was worried about what was going onto her kids’ skin – and therefore into their bodies – TruKid products are free of phthlates, sodium laurel sulphate and parabens. Their philosophy combines healthy products with healthy habits, so their site contains a lot of info and ideas for parents as well as a just for kids section that encourages face washing, sunscreen wearing, tooth brushing and more.

While that’s all well and good, luckily their products are also effective. We’ve been using their Silly Shampoo and Cool Conditioner and our kids’ hair is looking like they’ve just stepped out of a salon. The shampoo and conditioner smell good too, citrusy without being over-the-top fruity or overpowering.

We’ve never found applying sunscreen easy, especially on little faces, so we had high hopes for their sun stick and we weren’t disappointed. Not only does it glide on without you having to get your hands gloopy, but our kids were much more content for us to use it on their faces then creams or sprays. We also tried their Sunny Days Sunscreen and while we liked the protection it provided, we’ve realized we’re just not fans of creamy, sticky sunscreens. So bring on the sun stick!

And since TruKid’s prices aren’t bad either, next on our list to try is their Hero Stick which helps ease the indignities and irritation of bumps, bruises, bites and owies.
