Halloween spookiness is creeping all over Metro Vancouver. We’ve just updated our Halloween event listings with new activities, so make sure you check out what’s happening. If you aren’t in the mood for spooky fun just yet, don’t worry — there are tons of other great things happening around town. There’s a cool community art project in Coquitlam and a fun Tiny Tots concert with the VSO. Celebrate the falling leaves at an Autumn Fair, explore comics at ArtStarts, or welcome salmon home at one of the several events happening in parks around Metro Vancouver. Hear a story from a mermaid princess, let your inner Jedi shine, or find out how to mix colours in a unique way. 4th G Day Vancouver

G Day is a celebration and day of empowerment for girls aged 10-12 and their adult Champions, designed to inspire positive self-esteem and supportive family and community relationships during this key life phase. Speakers and performers include Desiree Dawson, Lori Boland, Michelle & Tru Wilson, Vanessa Richards, and Cybele Negris.
Canada 150: Mosaic Community Art Project
Friday, October 20th, 9 am – 4 pm, City Centre Library Coquitlam, 1169 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
Coquitlam Public Library is hosting the Canada 150 Mosaic Community Art Project on October 20 and 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You, your family and friends are invited to participate by painting a 4” x 4” tile that will become part of a 12’ x 8’ mosaic celebrating Coquitlam’s history. The project’s artist will provide a short training session at the beginning of the hour, and guidance as needed. The approximately 500 painted tiles will become part of a large mosaic mural that celebrates the past and present of industry in Coquitlam. It will also be part of a gigantic virtual mural composed of 150 murals from 150 communities throughout Canada.
VSO Tiny Tots Concerts: Gallop and Go!

Get ready to move to that barnyard beat with “Clip Clop” the horse! Featuring a bouncy bunch of original and symphonic sing-a-long tunes. Accompanied by an orchestral trio and folk instruments. Tiny Tots is a 4-concert series for the little ones, from toddlers to four or five years of age, held in the intimate performance space of the Playhouse Theatre in Downtown Vancouver. This series features professional music educators and musicians, Let Your Music Shine! with Lisa & Linda, in their own musical presentations for kids.

The 7th Annual Autumn Fair returns on Saturday, October 21, 2017. This is one of our most popular annual events, bringing people of all ages together to meet their neighbours, have fun and celebrate the season. The Autumn Fair fills an entire city block with street vendors, food trucks, pancake breakfast, bouncy castle and carnival games, pumpkin patch, local musicians, farmer’s market. And the fun doesn’t stop there! The festivities carry on inside the Kits House where we have live entertainment, a haunted house, tea room, craft market and more!
ArtStarts Explores: Comics

Everyone loves to read comics, but how much do you know about MAKING them? Join us for our family-friendly workshop on graphic narration! ArtStarts Explores is a hands-on drop-in workshop series for creative and adventurous families held from 11 am to 12 pm every Saturday. Explore creativity with your family through hands-on investigations and discover a wide variety of materials and artistic mediums. These process-based explorations invite families to experiment together through observing, touching, drawing, moving, assembling and listening to ignite their creative learning. Ages 12 and under. Westminster Savings Family Days: Colour Burst Sculpture

Red and Blue Make…? Come and find out how to mix colours in a unique way by assembling coloured filters together to create a 3D sculpture. Westminster Savings Family Days aims to help build an appreciation of the arts by bringing families together in an Art Gallery setting. Visitors will tour the exhibition in the Art Gallery at Evergreen and participate in a variety of entertaining and illuminating activities led by our Art Gallery staff. All Family Days are drop-in and there is no charge to participate.
Star Wars Reads Day

Salmon Come Home
Sunday, October 22nd, 11 am – 3 pm, Hoy Creek Park, 2231 Parkway Blvd, Coquitlam
Join the City of Coquitlam and the Hoy-Scott Watershed Society to welcome the salmon home on October 22, 2017. This free family event will be held at the Hoy Creek Hatchery from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Activities include: spawning salmon viewing, hatchery tour, music & crafts, environmental community groups, children’s costume parade & storytelling, meet the salmon & bear mascots, coyote presentation & food concession. The Hoy Creek Hatchery is a 7 minute walk from the Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain Station, and is located in Hoy Creek Linear Park, west of the City Centre Aquatic Complex (Pinetree and Guildford Way). Free parking is available at Coquitlam City Hall, Pinetree Community Centre and Douglas College.
