It’s all about mamas this weekend, and there are lots of ways to celebrate Mother’s Day in Metro Vancouver. There are also fairs and festivals, nature walks, family-friendly workshops, and a fun science festival. You can release salmon, join in the largest street hockey tournament in the world, and celebrate Police Week with an open house at the Surrey RCMP detachment. We’ve listed out just a few of the fantastic events happening this weekend in Metro Vancouver. Country Night
Friday, May 12th, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, Don Christian Recreation Centre, 6220 – 184 Street, Surrey
Drop by Don Christian Recreation Centre for a Country Night and celebrate the Cloverdale Rodeo early with your family! We will have country music, snacks, and rodeo-themed crafts and activities for everyone to enjoy.

PlayOn! Richmond
Saturday, May 13th, 8 am – 6 pm, Lansdowne Centre, 5300 No. 3 Rd, Richmond
This event has room for 30 street hockey rinks for two full days of the largest street hockey tournament in the world. Male, female and co-ed teams in divisions ranging from 7 and under through 55 and older and Elite will get to ‘play’ like good Canadian kids do. This event will feature over 3,000 participants, 200 volunteers, 150 referees and over 10,000 spectators. With divisions for all ages and skill levels; anyone can play. Can you think of a more Canadian way to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday?

Curious by Nature: Bears
Saturday, May 13th, 9:30 am – 11 am, Minnekhada Regional Park, Coquitlam
Curious about bears? Wondering how to share the park with them or how to avoid them? Ask a park interpreter at this pop-up display. Meet at Quarry Rd parking lot, Coquitlam.

Free Sustainable Workshop: Bird Friendly Gardening
Saturday, May 13th, 10 am – 11:30 am, North Delta Recreation Centre, 11415 84 Ave, Delta
There are a number of ways to attract birds to your garden from planting native plants to providing safe stopover areas for them to eat, drink and nest. Learn gardening tips to attract butterflies and birds and to have a vibrant yard. Draw prize!

KPU Science Rendezvous Festival — free for the whole family!
Saturday, May 13th, 11 am – 3 pm, KPU Langley, 20901 Langley Bypass, Langley
Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is once again opening its doors for our annual KPU Science Rendezvous on Saturday, May 13th from 11 am-3 pm! It’s the largest science celebration in the Fraser Valley. Last year, there were over 1,000 visitors, mostly young families. KPU’s Langley campus will be transformed into a spectacular science festival where visitors can participate in hands-on experiments, chemistry magic shows, music, art, interactive science labs, dancing fire, high-tech nursing demos, Brewing Lab tours, live bug races, flower labyrinth walks, and much, MUCH more! There will be prizes, food vendors, and a free Science Rendezvous t-shirt to the first 50 kids!

Salmon Send-Off
Saturday, May 13th, 11 am – 3 pm, Tynehead Regional Park, Surrey
Discover how salmon are raised in the hatchery, release salmon into the Serpentine River and have fun making salmon crafts. Concession available. Meet at 96th Ave entrance by Tynehead Hatchery.

22nd Annual Stone Soup Festival
Saturday, May 13th, 12 pm – 5 pm, Britannia Community Services Centre, 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver
This annual festival brings the community together in celebration of local food, local artists, community groups and entertainment with a focus on food sustainability, food justice, and the environment. This event also includes workshops, local authors, demonstrations, food vendors, free soup and more!

RCMP Open House
