There’s tons of fun happening around Metro Vancouver this weekend! Watch spectacular fireworks at the Honda Celebration of Light, learn about tigers at the zoo or raccoons at Stanley Park. There are art workshops, drop in family painting parties, or head to McBurney Plaza in Langley to meet some local sports celebrities. There’s a free circus day, a fun Salvadorian festival, and a celebration of Canadian Military History. It’s going to be a great weekend! There are marketssummer festivals, and tons of other awesome events, so get out of the house and have a great time with your family!

Honda Celebration of Light
Saturday, July 29th – Saturday, August 5th, English Bay, Vancouver
The spectacular energy of the Honda Celebration of Light returns for its 27th year on the shores of English Bay, with a thrilling line-up for this year’s festival featuring Japan on July 29th, the United Kingdom on August 2nd and home team Canada on August 5th. Canada’s 150th birthday is celebrated with a brand-new focus on live musical entertainment that celebrates Canada’s heritage, where Vancouverites can spend their afternoons soaking in the sun with thousands of fellow festival goers, listening to energetic, and soulful live musical performances.

Tiger Day at the Zoo
Saturday, July 29th, 9 am – 3 pm, Greater Vancouver Zoo, 5048 – 264th Street, Aldergrove
It’s Tiger day! Learn about Tiger conservation at the info booth at the front of the zoo at 11 am and buy some Tiger ice cream $2, all proceeds from ice cream purchases will go to Panthera Save the Tiger Project! Meet after the lion feeding at 1 pm for a Tiger talk!

Rougish Racoons
Saturday, July 29th, 10 am – 12 pm, Stanley Park, Vancouver
Who is that with their dirty paws in the mud? Adorable and crafty, the raccoons that inhabit Stanley Park are not shy about being spotted. This unusual urban behaviour is just the beginning of their story. Join in for a walking exploration into the lives of the roguish raccoons and other Park regulars!

Ventriloquist Kellie Haines sings new songs from her most recent album, The Story of Me, Myself & I, with Magrau the tricky bird and Kamilla the curious frog. This hilarious show is inspired by Kellie’s childhood and blends musical numbers with fast-paced ventriloquism comedy. Join Kellie and her colourful friends in this fun and interactive show that highlights that being different isn’t only okay… it’s extraordinary! All ages.

Family Drop in – Painting in the Park
Saturday, July 29th, 12 pm – 3 pm, Maple Ridge Museum, 22520 116 Avenue, Maple Ridge
Head to Maple Ridge Museum this summer for some family-fun! Enjoy games, painting crafts, and tours of the museum and railway diorama. Light refreshments will be provided.

Sports in the Plaza
Saturday, July 29th, 12 pm – 3 pm, McBurney Plaza, 20514 Fraser Highway, Langley
It’s game time! Whether you enjoy being on the field or cheering from the sidelines this event is for you. Come down to McBurney Plaza for your chance to meet local sports celebrities and to take part in interactive activities including the Revolution Martial Arts Obstacle Course. Player card and prize pack giveaways! The BC Sports Hall of Fame will be on site with their community outreach team and historical memorabilia. If you’re lucky you may even snap a photo with a mascot!

The Big Chill – Kewl Engine Start-Ups and Ice Cream Treats
Saturday, July 29th, 1 pm – 4 pm, Canadian Museum of Flight, 5333 216th Street, Langley
Come hear the roar as we start-up some of the vintage aircraft. See what a pilot does before taking to the air – pre-flight demo by a certified instructor. (Will he choose you as his “student”?) See some airplanes perform a flyover including the mighty Harvard. Free ice-cream treats for all. Admission by donation.

Canadian Military History at Heritage Square

Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal to a Military vehicle?! Come down to Mackin House parking lot on July 30, 2017, and explore a military convoy! This is your opportunity to meet the vehicle owners, share your passion for military history and ask questions! This event puts you face to face with experts in the field. Learn about battlefield medical care, collecting military history and discover more about the military events that helped shape the nation over the past century. This is a free family event!! Step inside Mackin house to learn more about how the Great War changed the lives of men in the early 20th century.

Free Circus Day
Sunday, July 30th, 10 am – 2 pm, Vancouver Circus School, 810 Quayside Drive, New Westminster & 1525 Welch Street, North Vancouver
Have you always wanted to reach new heights on the aerial silks? Throw caution to the wind with juggling props? Jump your cares away on the trampoline? Have we got the class for you! All classes are taught at an introductory level by VCS’s amazing and experienced circus instructors. Full information on classes and times available and registration info is available on the site. Free Circus Day is happening at both the New Westminster and North Vancouver locations this year!

3rd Salvadorian Festival of the Family
Sunday, July 30th, 12 pm – 5 pm, Britannia Community Centre, 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver
Enjoy an evening of music, games, amazing Salvadorian pupusas and other national dishes! Kids will be able to enjoy many activities like face painting, spinning tops, and soccer matches!
