With Family Day on Monday and Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, this weekend is all about love and family togetherness. Celebrate Family Day with a fun-filled day at VanDusen Garden and Bloedel Conservatory. Create a bird feeder, find your way through a hedge maze, spot common birds in the garden, play games indoors, and examine the functions of feathers under a microscope in the classroom at VanDusen Garden. Then warm up inside the tropical dome at Bloedel Conservatory, enjoy up-close encounters with tropical birds, and get your face painted. Lanterns in the Garden

The Lanterns in the Garden 2017 sets during the period of the Chinese Yuanxiao Festival(also known as the Lantern Festival), the end of the Chinese New Year. It will be a valuable opportunity for visitors to explore the culture, the beauty and the history of Asia. The 3-day event will take the visitors to travel back in time, and enjoy an authentic, traditional Yuanxiao Festival (the Lantern Festival) in the first Chinese garden built outside of China.
ArtStarts and MOA present The Magic of Making Cloth – Workshop with Rebecca Graham

Families are invited to join artist Rebecca Graham to play with spinning loose fibres into long, strong yarns, and weaving on a simple loom. What are you doing Saturday, February 11? (This. You’re doing this, is the answer!) This year The Luminous Elephant and Kidsworld Programs are teaming up to make Valentine’s day extra special with cards, homemade bears and polaroid pictures. Come by the studio and create a beautiful card for a loved one, learn to sew a homemade bear – and have your polaroid taken in the DIY Photo Booth. Cards and bears are free, and polaroid pictures are by donation.

Learn about the art of Capoeira with Axé Capoeira! An Afro-Brazilian art form, capoeira will give families an appreciation for multiculturalism through traditional song, live music and elements of Brazilian dance. This educational tapestry of Brazilian culture and history will inspire the whole family. Your pulse will be stimulated by live music, your eyes amazed by gravity-defying acrobats and your body moved by dance.
