Hooray for a long weekend! And one focused on family at that. We love getting an extra day with our favourite people. There are a ton of awesome family-focused events happening all over Metro Vancouver. Watch a puppet show, create some art, or read along with Clifford the Big Red Dog. There are walks, hikes, and wanders, family movies, and kids concerts. For all sorts of Family Day fun, check out our giant round-up of great events happening all over Metro Vancouver. We’ve found over 100 so far! Events happen all weekend, so don’t wait until Monday to check it out.

Sleeping Beauty Dreams
Friday, February 9th, 7 pm, Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
The Evergreen is proud to present this Canadian premiere and international collaboration with Presentation House Theatre and Marionetas de la Esquina. Sleeping Beauty is a puppetry, fairy-tale story of a king and queen who want to keep their daughter from danger. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can-Admission.

Walk Richmond – Thompson Community Centre-Terra Nova
Saturday, February 10th, 10 am – 11 am, Thompson Community Centre, 5151 Granville Avenue, Richmond
Explore both the north end of the Railway Greenway Trail and the Fraser River along the Terra Nova Dyke Trail with its panoramic view of the airport. This walk is a treat for airplane and nature enthusiasts.

Kidz Craft & Reading with Clifford the Big Red Dog
Saturday, February 10th, 11 am – 3 pm, Semiahmoo Shopping Centre, 1701 – 152nd Street, White Rock
Visit the Valentine craft table between 11:00 and 3:00 on Saturday, February 10, and make a Stained Glass Heart (while quantities last). Kid Lit Reading Club – Come visit Clifford the Big Red Dog for story time in the Food Court at 11am and 1pm on Saturday, February 10.

Multiple Universes Art Activities
Saturday, February 10th – Monday, February 12th, 11:30 am – 4 pm, H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, 1100 Chestnust Street, Vancouver
Release your inner artist and paint an alternate universe as you would imagine it to be. Are the laws of gravity different? What is the shape of your sun? What kind of planets and space debris orbit the sun? Perhaps your universe is ruled by cats. You and your kids can use your imagination to explore the outer limits and create a masterpiece!

Family Movie Matinée: Emoji Movie
Saturday, February 10th, 2:30 pm – 4:15 pm, Capilano Library, 3045 Highland Blvd, North Vancouver
Head to the library for a showing of The Emoji Movie. Gene, a multi-expressional emoji, sets out on a journey to become a normal emoji. No lines, no fees, and you can bring your own treats! Space limited. Arrive early to get a spot!

Extreme Survivors: Winter Wildlife
Sunday, February 11th, 10 am – 12 pm, Stanley Park, Vancouver
From chickadees to crows, insects to amphibians, and shrews to squirrels, animals display a bewildering variety of adaptations for surviving the winter. Bundle up and walk with us to explore how wintering animals beat the cold and meet their shelter, food, and water needs.

VSO Kids’ Koncerts – Platypus Theatre: Peter and the Wolf
Sunday, February 11th, 2 pm – 3 pm, Orpheum Theatre, 601 Smithe Street, Vancouver
In a fresh take on a well-loved classic, Peter is a dreamer who suddenly finds himself in the middle of an adventure: a mystifying mission to capture a wily wolf. Two dancers and an actor, colourful sets and incredible masks make for a modern and humorous re-telling of this enduring story. Peter and the Wolf brings listeners in on the action as they help catch the mangy marauder once and for all!
