It’s the last weekend of summer break and there a ton of fun festivals, outdoor concerts, and more awesome family-friendly activities for you and your kids to enjoy. Learn all about Japanese culture, Latin American culture, or Polish culture. There’s a fair on Labour Day at Burnaby Village Museum, a special shark event at Beaty Biodiversity Museum, and old and new farm equipment to peruse at the BC Farm Museum. Take a walk to Point Atkinson Lighthouse or splash around in an outdoor pool as a final farewell to summer! There are marketssummer festivals, and tons of other awesome events too, so get out of the house and have a great time with your family!

Summer Concert Series presented by Envision Financial
Friday, September 1st, 7 pm – 9 pm, Town Centre Park Plaza, 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
Roll out the picnic blankets and get ready to groove as the final installment of Coquitlam’s Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Envision Financial, ends on a high note. Jazz and swing will fill Town Centre Park on Friday, Sept. 1 from 7-9 p.m., rounding out the series of three outdoor concerts at the spectacular outdoor plaza.

World Festival
Friday, September 1st – Saturday, September 2nd, Minoru Park, 7191 Granville Ave, Richmond
One of the City’s signature multicultural festivals. Over 40 food trucks, six performance stages, more than 60 performances, an artisan market, kids world and more.

Nikkei Matsuri Festival
Saturday, September 2nd – Sunday, September 3rd, Nikkei Cultural Centre, 6688 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby
Head to the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre this Labour Day Long Weekend from 11 am – 7 pm for Japanese style food, games, entertainment, vendors and more! Nikkei Matsuri is a unique 2-day experience that brings all of the elements of visiting a “matsuri” in Japan, right here in Burnaby at Nikkei Centre. The festival has something for everyone, at any age, and aims to showcase the pride of Japanese culture here in Canada. All proceeds from Nikkei Matsuri will benefit the mission of Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre — to honour, preserve, and share Japanese Canadian culture for a better Canada!

Polish Festival
Sunday, September 3rd, 2 pm – 7:30 pm, Lynn Valley Village Plaza, 1233 – 1277 Lynn Valley Road, North Vancouver
The 5th annual Polish Cultural Festival takes place on September 3rd at Lynn Valley Village in North Vancouver. This event will feature Polish music, singing and folk dancing and a special program for children and youth with puppet theatre show, arts and games activities, sing along, balloon lady, face-painting and more.

14th Annual Festival del Maiz – Corn Festival
Sunday, September 3rd, 11 am – 6 pm, Britannia Community Centre, 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver
Come enjoy traditional Latin American Cuisine made with corn! Tamales, pupusas, riguas, elote loco, atoles, nachos, pasteles, burritos and more. YUM! Plus you can enjoy awesome live Latin American entertainment.

Sharks are Way Cool because:
Sunday, September 3rd, 1 pm – 2 pm, Beaty Biodiversity Museum, 2212 Main Mall, Vancouver
Sharks are some of the most fascinating and misunderstood animals in the ocean. They help to keep balance in ocean ecosystems. Sharks are not a threat to people – we’re better off with healthy shark populations than we are without them. This talk will also discuss Canadian sharks and shark conservation issues.

Canada 150 Tour of Point Atkinson Light Station
Sunday, September 3rd, 1 pm – 3 pm, Lighthouse Park, 4902 Beacon Lane, West Vancouver
Lighthouse Park Preservation Society and West Vancouver Historical Society invite you to join a free guided tour of the light station grounds. Learn about the link between the lighthouse and Canada’s confederation. Climb the steps to the base of the lighthouse (the tower will not be open). Enter the Fog Alarm museum to learn about its inner workings and the role of the lighthouse keeper. Sit inside the Power House to view a short slide show on the presence of the military during World War II. Registration is required.

Last Splash Pool Party
Sunday, September 3rd, 3 pm – 5 pm, Rocky Point Pool, 2800 Murray St, Port Moody and Westhill Pool, 203 Westhill Pl, Port Moody
Head to Port Moody for a splashing good time celebrating the last swim day of summer at both Rocky Point pool and Westhill pool! Leaders will organize games for all ages.

Old and New Day at the BC Farm Museum
Monday, September 4th, 10 am – 4:30 pm, BC Farm Museum, 9131 Kin Street, Fort Langley
OLD and NEW Day – visit the Farm Museum where there will be “OLD” artifacts displayed beside “NEW” (modern) versions of the same item on loan to us from a local business. Fascinating learning experience.

Labour Day Fair
Monday, September 4th, 11 am – 4:30 pm, Burnaby Village Museum & Carousel, 6501 Deer Lake Avenue, Burnaby
It’s the last day of the Burnaby Village Museum’s Summer Season. It’s old-fashioned fun complete with games of chance, entertainment, demonstrations, a children’s craft, market vendors plus carousel rides!

Holiday Family Fun – Labour Day at Sunset CC
Monday, September 4th, 11 am – 1 pm, Sunset Community Centre, 6810 Main Street, Vancouver
A day of fun for the family on your Statutory Holiday! Join us at Sunset Community Centre for playgym (including a bouncy castle), arts and crafts, games, and more! A healthy snack concession will be available.
