It’s the last weekend of summer break and there a ton of fun festivals, outdoor concerts, and more awesome family-friendly activities for you and your kids to enjoy. Learn all about Japanese culture, Latin American culture, or Polish culture. There’s a fair on Labour Day at Burnaby Village Museum, a special shark event at Beaty Biodiversity Museum, and old and new farm equipment to peruse at the BC Farm Museum. Take a walk to Point Atkinson Lighthouse or splash around in an outdoor pool as a final farewell to summer! There are markets, summer festivals, and tons of other awesome events too, so get out of the house and have a great time with your family!
Summer Concert Series presented by Envision Financial
Friday, September 1st, 7 pm – 9 pm, Town Centre Park Plaza, 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
Roll out the picnic blankets and get ready to groove as the final installment of Coquitlam’s Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Envision Financial, ends on a high note. Jazz and swing will fill Town Centre Park on Friday, Sept. 1 from 7-9 p.m., rounding out the series of three outdoor concerts at the spectacular outdoor plaza.

Head to the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre this Labour Day Long Weekend from 11 am – 7 pm for Japanese style food, games, entertainment, vendors and more! Nikkei Matsuri is a unique 2-day experience that brings all of the elements of visiting a “matsuri” in Japan, right here in Burnaby at Nikkei Centre. The festival has something for everyone, at any age, and aims to showcase the pride of Japanese culture here in Canada. All proceeds from Nikkei Matsuri will benefit the mission of Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre — to honour, preserve, and share Japanese Canadian culture for a better Canada!

The 5th annual Polish Cultural Festival takes place on September 3rd at Lynn Valley Village in North Vancouver. This event will feature Polish music, singing and folk dancing and a special program for children and youth with puppet theatre show, arts and games activities, sing along, balloon lady, face-painting and more.

Sharks are some of the most fascinating and misunderstood animals in the ocean. They help to keep balance in ocean ecosystems. Sharks are not a threat to people – we’re better off with healthy shark populations than we are without them. This talk will also discuss Canadian sharks and shark conservation issues.
Canada 150 Tour of Point Atkinson Light Station
Sunday, September 3rd, 1 pm – 3 pm, Lighthouse Park, 4902 Beacon Lane, West Vancouver
Lighthouse Park Preservation Society and West Vancouver Historical Society invite you to join a free guided tour of the light station grounds. Learn about the link between the lighthouse and Canada’s confederation. Climb the steps to the base of the lighthouse (the tower will not be open). Enter the Fog Alarm museum to learn about its inner workings and the role of the lighthouse keeper. Sit inside the Power House to view a short slide show on the presence of the military during World War II. Registration is required.
Last Splash Pool Party

It’s the last day of the Burnaby Village Museum’s Summer Season. It’s old-fashioned fun complete with games of chance, entertainment, demonstrations, a children’s craft, market vendors plus carousel rides!
