This weekend you can take a walk on the beach, try ringette, or explore the wonderful world of paint. There’s a starry night walk in Delta, a free family skate in New West and a Car Free Day in Port Moody. The PNE is opening this weekend too! There are only a couple of weekends left before the kids head back to school, so make the most of your time together and plan an awesome weekend full of great family-friendly activities. There are marketssummer festivals, and tons of other awesome events too, so get out of the house and have a great time with your family!

Beach Walk at White Rock Beach
Friday, August 18th, 9 am – 10 am, White Rock Pier, White Rock
Learn how to be a Beach Hero! Join a free guided beach exploration with the Beach Hero Marine Interpreters. Search for the plants and animals that call the beach home, and learn to explore gently to help them survive! Meet at the base of the White Rock Pier. Look for the orange shirts of the Beach Hero Marine Interpreters! Parking at White Rock beach is free before 10 am.

Creatures of Twilight
Friday, August 18th, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, Kanaka Creek Regional Park, River Rd, Maple Ridge
The park never sleeps. Find out who comes out as the sun sets. Dispel myths and discover the many adaptations that allow creatures who hunt in the dark to survive. Ages 8+. $8 per adult, $4.25 per child/youth/adult 65+. Registration required.

ArtStarts Explores: Paint
Saturday, August 19th, 11 am – 12 pm, ArtStarts Gallery, 808 Richards Street, Vancouver
Let’s mix, stroke, mash, colour, and blend your way through this fun family workshop that explores paint and painting.

Come try Ringette!
Saturday, August 19th, 5:30 pm, Moody Park Arena, 701 Eighth Avenue, New Westminster
Come join members of the Burnaby New West Ringette Association and learn how to play this FUN sport! This free event is open to children between the ages of 4-14 who want to try Ringette. Beginner skaters are welcome! All you need to bring are some warm clothes and gloves. Protective padding is recommended so if you have elbow or knee pads please bring them along. Free skate and helmet rentals will be available at the skate shop. Please arrive approximately 15-20 minutes before the ice time so equipment can be fitted properly. Pre-registration is required.

Free Family Skate
Saturday, August 19th, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, Moody Park Arena, 701 Eighth Ave, New Westminster
Have a skate on Thrifty Foods! All skaters will receive FREE admission and free rental equipment. So bring the family and have a great skate sponsored by our valued community partner.

Starry Night
Saturday, August 19th, 7:30 pm – 10 pm, Deas Island Regional Park, 6090 Deas Island Rd, Delta
Sparkling lights and candlelit paths welcome you to the park at night. See a live owl, join a drumming circle and make a wish upon a star during this enchanted evening. Allow 1 hour to complete the walk. Bring a flashlight or a fancy lantern to show off as you walk the trail. Free. Drop by anytime. For all ages.

London Family Farm Day
Sunday, August 20th, 10 am, London Heritage Farm, 6511 Dyke Rd, Richmond
Petting zoo, pony rides, bouncy castle, face painting, live entertainment, Richmond Art Gallery’s Art Truck, bake sale, craft fair, demos, concession and more! Most of the Fair activities are free with gate admission, which is $3 adults; $2 teens and seniors; $5 for families; kids under 12 are free. The Farm House, Tea Room and Gift Shop will be open, and house tours will be offered.

Urban Safari Open House
Sunday, August 20th, 10 am, Urban Safari Rescue Society, 1395 176th Street, Surrey
Urban Safari Rescue Society annual Open House – join us for a day of exploration and family fun. There will be a pancake breakfast, then the barbeque is fired up for delicious food, you can get photos taken with animals, the Smile Band will entertain, the Honeybee Centre is coming to demo. Bee Beards and Urban Bee Keeping. There will be a scavenger hunt for kids and other children’s activities. Rabbitat will be here with rabbits you can feed by donation. We have a bigger Bug Lab with many cool new species AND of course, there arethe hundreds of rescued exotic animals for you to learn about and see.

Car-Free Day on St. Johns Street
Sunday, August 20th, 12 pm – 7 pm, St. Johns Street, between Douglas Street and Moody Street, Port Moody
Join in on Port Moody’s first Car-Free Day on St. Johns Street! This community celebration will be filled with local businesses and artisans, delicious food, live music, and activities for all ages.
