What to do this weekend? How about an outdoor movie or an awesome scavenger hunt? There’s the Abbotsford Air Show, the Chilliwack Fair, and a really cool event called BioBlitz happening in Stanley Park. Head to a free concert, watch Saturday’s meteor shower, or get up close and personal with raptors in Richmond. Then top the weekend off with a bee and blueberry festival or a picnic in the park. There are marketssummer festivals, and tons of other awesome events too, so get out of the house and have a great time with your family!

Outdoor Movie at Trimble Park “SING”
Friday, August 11th, 8 pm, Trimble Park, West 8th & Trimble, Vancouver
West Point Grey Community Centre in partnership with Fresh Air Cinemas is hosting a big screen movie at Trimble Park. The movie this year is SING and activities including a BBQ and family friendly activities, which will begin at 6:30 pm with the movie starting at approx. 8pm. Bring your blankets, picnic chairs and the whole family for a memorable Summer evening.

Abbotsford International Airshow

145th Chilliwack Fair
Friday, August 11th – Sunday, August 13th, 9 am – 5 pm, The Chilliwack Fair, 7590 Lickman Road, Chilliwack
The 145th Chilliwack Fair is celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday! We have so many things in store this year including Cooking Demonstrations, 4-H competitions, Live BC Musicians, the BC Rodeo, and our annual Dairy Show in honoured memory of Charlie Thomson. Come by and visit with the animals, watch live performances, eat from our vast selection of food trucks and take in the Fair!

Stanley Park BioBlitz
Saturday, August 12th – Sunday, August 13th, Stanley Park, Vancouver, Cost: Free
The Stanley Park Ecology Society, the Canadian Wildlife Federation, and BioBlitz Canada 150, with the support of the Department of Canadian Heritage, are holding a celebration of national biodiversity in Stanley Park this year on August 12th and 13th. The festival is called BioBlitz, and it’s a great way to celebrate all the amazing biodiversity in our great nation. The best part? All the events are totally family-friendly and free to attend! Just be sure to pre-register!

Kaleidoscope Arts Festival
Saturday, August 12th, 2 pm – 10 pm, Town Centre Park, 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
B.C.’s beloved rocker, Bif Naked, takes the outdoor stage as the headlining act to this highly anticipated, full-day arts festival on Saturday, Aug. 12. The musical lineup also features jazz/pop singer-songwriter Jennifer Hayes, indie/roots/folk act West My Friend, indie rockers Derrival, and BreakOut West 2017 nominees for Rock Artist of the Year, The Matinée. Other festival highlights include dancers, circus performers, storytellers, artists, an artisans market, kids’ activities, local food trucks and craft beer.

Amazing Farm Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, August 12th, 11 am – 3 pm, Stewart Farm House, 13723 Crescent Road, South Surrey
Would you have made it as a pioneer? Find out as you team up with friends, coworkers or family in this race around the Farm. Bring your smartphone or tablet to record your race to pump water (no taps here!), do laundry without a washing machine, dress like a pioneer (they didn’t have zippers) and more. There are prizes and bragging rights to be won! Be sure to check-in at the welcome table by 2 pm to ensure your spot.

Meteor Shower Watch
Saturday, August 12th, 8 pm – 11 pm, Aldergrove Regional Park, Lefeuvre Rd., Abbotsford
Join astronomers with telescopes as they search the night sky for the Perseids meteor shower. Enjoy lantern-lit trails, games, crafts, storytelling and other entertainment. Camp overnight to extend your star gazing experience. Campers must arrive between 5 and 8 pm. Meet at Aldergrove Bowl entrance on Lefeuvre Rd, Abbotsford. Presented by Metro Vancouver with Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. FREE in 2017 to mark 50 years of regional parks! Drop by anytime. ALL AGES.

Blackout: Night Sky Festival
Saturday, August 12th, 5 pm – midnight, Museum of Anthropology, 6393 NW Marine Drive, Vancouver
Explore our connection to the stars during an evening of arts and astronomy. Inspired by the global dark sky movement, Blackout brings together storytellers, musicians, artists and astronomers to share their relationships to the skies. Join us to witness the peak of the Perseid meteor shower and explore the museum until midnight during this all-ages event. You’ll have the chance to peer into telescopes, make your own star lantern and experience an experimental art installation that reimagines the constellations. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy stargazing to a soundtrack of downtempo, ambient and tribal beats, punctuated by live music and throat singing.

6th Annual Bees & Blueberries Festival
Saturday, August 12th – Sunday, August 13th, 10 am – 4 pm, Honeyland Canada, 17617 Ford Detour Road, Pitt Meadows
Dr. Bee’s Honeyland Canada is proud to present the relaunch of our annual bees and blueberries festival. After a 7-year hiatus, we are bringing back this fun and family-friendly event with a variety of activities from guided tours to our blueberry pie eating contest. There will be a main stage with an exciting lineup of performers and local favourites, including Dilly the clown and Juno-nominated children’s singer-songwriter Ginalina!

Richmond Raptor Festival
Sunday, August 13th, 11 am – 4 pm, Terra Nova Rural Park, 2340 River Rd, Richmond
See fabulous birds of prey up close. Falconry displays at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Entry by donation.

Picnic in the Park
Sunday, August 13th, 11 am – 4 pm, Connaught Park, 2390 W 10th Ave, Vancouver
Come celebrate Kitsilano Community Centre’s largest annual event. Connaught Park will be filled with fun-filled activities, interactive performances, rides, inflatables, community booths and food. $5 wristband gives all access to the day’s events. Celebrate summer & the community!
