Hello, weekend! There are a ton of awesome family-friendly activities and events to take part in all over Metro Vancouver. Check out some sparkly gems at the BC Gem Show, take part in a popsicle stick building competition, or take a walk in Richmond. There’s spring craft markets, fun family art activities, and swap meets too. Take part in the Vimy Day celebration in Vancouver and then head to the VSO for a concert just for kids. BC Gem Show
Friday, April 6th – Sunday, April 7th, Central Fraser Valley Fairgrounds, 32470 Haida Drive, Abbotsford
Many Club Displays, Demonstrations, Grab Bags, Children’s Creative Workshop, Gold Panning & Door Prizes. As always, there will be a great variety of displays of gemstones, crystals and minerals from member clubs. Many cases will contain collections of hand-crafted jewellery and silversmithing.

Popsicle Stick Building Competition
Saturday, April 7th, 9:30 am – 2 pm, Douglas College – Coquitlam Campus, 1250 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
In celebration of National Engineering and Geoscience Month, Tri-City EGBC and Douglas College is pleased to announce their annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Building Competition. Registration forms on the website. Submit with $5.00 cash at any Tri-City libraries to obtain kits. Open to all Tri-City students K-12. Visit Engineers and Geoscientists of BC for more information.

Walk Richmond – Hamilton / McLean Park
Saturday, April 7th, 10 am – 11 am, Hamilton Community Centre, 5140 Smith Drive, Richmond
Explore the East Richmond neighbourhood of Hamilton on this walk that winds through Hamilton Community Park and loops Mclean Park and the surrounding community.

Purely Local Spring Market 2018
Saturday, April 7th, Kwomais Lodge, 1367 128th Street, Surrey
Purely Local hosts shopping markets in South Surrey featuring BC’s best local designers, bakers, small shops and artisans. The Spring market will be held on April 7 at Kwomais Point Park. The market unites 35 talented makers, including Só Luxury, Jax & Lennon, and Three Corners Artisan.

16th Annual Early Years Festival
Saturday, April 7th, 11 am – 3 pm, Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, 13458 – 107a Avenue, Surrey
Bring your child (birth to 6 years old) to the 16th Annual Early Years Festival! Children can participate in fun activities while parents or caregivers learn about community resources for young children. Free.

Used Kidstuff Sales

Vimy Day Ceremony and Army Cadet Parade
Sunday, April 8th, 10:30 am – 12 pm, Mountain View Cemetery, 5545 Fraser Street, Vancouver
On Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., Mountain View Cemetery will host B.C. Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon along with the Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson and a parade of army cadets as they honour those who lost their lives at Vimy Ridge.

Hanami – Japanese Cherry Blosson Celebration
Sunday, April 8th, 11 am – 1:30 pm, Trout Lake Community Centre, 3360 Victoria Drive, Vancouver
Celebrate with traditional performances, Aikido demonstrations, and taste traditional tea from a TLCC pottery cup that you can purchase for $3.00. There will also be traditional food, and origami crafts for the kids. Find the schedule of the event here.

Family Day at PdA!
Sunday, April 8th, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm, Place des Arts, 1120 Brunette Avenue, Coquitlam
The rain may seem neverending, but the trees love it! Celebrate the oncoming blooming season with a new exhibition, “Treetopia” by photographer and multimedia artist Mark Bowen. Then view “Contemplation of Forces” by painter Moira Calder and “Colour is Life” by ceramic artist Sohreh Sachs. Take part in three drop-in art activities based on the exhibitions and feel free to join us for our annual senior students’ concert starting at 3pm.

VSO Kids’ Koncert: Magic Circle Mime – Music, Noise & Silence
Sunday, April 8th, 2 pm – 4 pm, Orpheum Theatre, 601 Smithe Street, Vancouver
Three meddlesome spirits – Music, Noise and Silence – invade the Orpheum. The concert seems doomed as Silence and Noise attempt to seize control of the orchestra. Only with the help of the audience, and Music, will the conductor be able to break the fierce grip of Noise and bring harmony back to the orchestra.
