Did you know a flamingo can eat only when its head is upside down? Weird, but true. We have a real fondness for our kids telling us crazy facts they’ve learned, and National Geographic Kids magazine provides them lots of fodder. Cool inventions, movie and book reviews, world records, globetrotting adventures, and incredible nuggets of animal trivia, this 10 issues a year mag is a veritable treasure trove for curious kids. Plus, subscriptions come by mail, and it seems to be one of those universal truths that all kids LOVE mail.

We love learning through games. And we’re not even talking overtly educational games; games are just naturally packed, full-of-learning fun. Card, dice, and board games for 3-5 year-olds are generally about introducing basic skills: dice rolling; counting; colour, letter and …
