Jr. Gamers Starter Pack
We love learning through games. And we’re not even talking overtly educational games; games are just naturally packed, full-of-learning fun. Card, dice, and board games for 3-5 year-olds are generally about introducing basic skills: dice rolling; counting; colour, letter and number recognition; matching; turn taking; memory; concepts of luck vs. skill; and fine motor skills, [...]
strategically fun

The advent of fall is the perfect time to plan some family games nights. We’re big games people in our house, but we’ve found other parents looking at us like they’d rather have a root canal when it’s suggested…and then we realized, maybe they’re stuck in the mind-numbing monotony of Monopoly, Candyland and the Game [...]
ch-ch-ch-chia

Often times, when we think of indulging, we approach things from the outside in. Be it a pedicure, a new skincare regime (link to Monday Organics 4u article), or a really stupendous massage. But what about taking care of the inner you? Running around after little ones can take a toll on even the most stalwart of parents, so eating right becomes paramount. And in order to make healthy eating easy, not only does a food have to taste good, it helps if it’s super convenient as well: like Annie Oxidants.

Back to school means almost back to normal…and perhaps, back to sanity? With tots back in teacher’s care, it’s time for some “you” time. We mean it … time to indulge in you! And one of our favourite ways of indulging is to put ourselves in the hands of the professionals for a ‘Mani-Pedi’ … so we got Glossed!

granting indulgences: take the challenge
Filed Under Going Green, Stuff, Tips & Tricks | September 19, 2011
You look like you could use some time for yourself. Yes, we’re talking to you: the amazing mother who has spent the last few weeks changing the internal clocks of her family (no small feat) and getting them back to school; the fabulous mum who adds holiday and camp director to her already overflowing CV during the summer months; and the splendiferous mama who, let’s face it, does it all.

Even if you aren’t packing full lunches for daycare or school yet, the ratcheted up September schedule (with extracurricular classes and appointments back in full session) means you’re often on-the-go at snack time.
stroller saavy
Filed Under Places, Stuff | September 13, 2011
No matter what brand or style you choose from basic, to fully blinged-out, buying a stroller is a major investment… and one most parents can’t live without (who hasn’t done laps of a shopping mall to get babe to sleep?). Which is one of the reasons we love Macklem’s – not only do they carry (and know everything about) a huge selection of strollers, but they also do onsite repairs.

lunch box deconstructed
Filed Under Stuff, Tips & Tricks | September 12, 2011
As with most of parenting, school lunches are an intricate balancing act. Novelty and food don’t mix well for most kids, but equally guaranteed to return a full lunch box is a “booorrrring” meal. After a couple of years we’ve finally found a formula that seems to work; a sort of a mix and match approach. Each lunch has four components: main, fruit, veg, and snack, and we have about five or six options in each category. We’ve found that as long as we keep mixing them up, we don’t have to add new items.
reading, writing and reducing
Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | September 7, 2011
With school starting (even pre-school) you’re probably thinking more about the “classic Rs” (reading, writing and arithmetic) than the other “Rs” – reducing, reusing and recycling. Luckily, we’ve found some great school (and art) supplies that merge both:
the scent of sleep
Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | August 31, 2011
Sleep. We all need it, we all love it, and more often than not, it’s as elusive as the Loch Ness Monster. And now that the kiddos are heading back to school and moving into a more structured routine, sleep becomes more important than ever. So we’re bringing out our arsenal of sleep aids to help us get those kids back to sleep for back to school.
