Did you know a flamingo can eat only when its head is upside down? Weird, but true. We have a real fondness for our kids telling us crazy facts they’ve learned, and National Geographic Kids magazine provides them lots of fodder. Cool inventions, movie and book reviews, world records, globetrotting adventures, and incredible nuggets of animal trivia, this 10 issues a year mag is a veritable treasure trove for curious kids. Plus, subscriptions come by mail, and it seems to be one of those universal truths that all kids LOVE mail.

As the temps drop and the smell of soon-to-fly snow hangs in the air, parents are bracing for battle: the annual crusade to keep hats on heads, and mittens in pairs. But we have some good news, because thanks to T.O.’s Snug As A Bug, we may have found hats so cute your kiddos will want to keep them on, and mitts that resist being misplaced.

Fall has arrived, with its rust coloured leaves and pumpkin goodness. We have finally packed away all the shorts, sunhats and sundresses, and have brought out the sweaters, toques and tights. We’ve long been fans of Peekaboo Beans clothing. Our youngest is now happily wearing a thrice-handed down shirt, yet the colours and screened image are practically as sharp as the day it was purchased. So Halloween is a big deal for kids, but it always seems a bit anti-climactic to us. Trick treating passes so quickly we’re left thinking; all this build up for that? And then we realized, it’s the journey, mama, it’s the journey.
