tea please

‘Tis the season where trying to stay warm becomes top priority — from the clothes we wear to the number of hot beverages we consume. So there’s nothing we love more than a roaring fire, woolen socks, and a huge mug of tea. And thanks to Tealish, we’ve just found a new favourite for our cup.

baby lit

We’re partial to giving books to the littlest special people in our lives, whether for baby showers, Christmas, or birthdays. And since books for the under two set don’t have a lot of room for plot development, we feel they need a certain “je ne sais quoi” to bring pleasure to the parent reader as well. With board books you want a little something to chew on (quite literally for the youngest ‘consumers’ ), which usually that comes in the form of wordplay, tongue in cheek humour, and/or great design – qualities our newest picks have in abundance.

the colour of music

When we were very young, we took piano lessons. And although it has been many years since we’ve seen her, the thought of our music teacher still gives us fear hives whenever we sit down to tickle the ivories. But we would love our little ones to gain an appreciation for music (without the hives), so we headed to the VSO School of Music and checked out their Colourstrings Program.

‘tis better to give…

Filed Under Stuff, Tips & Tricks | November 21, 2011

What gifts do your children give? And to whom? We don’t mean fancy soaps for granny (that we buy and add a cute tag to), but gifts they make or buy. We want to teach our kids how to be givers as well as receivers, so we’ve been experimenting with different options the last few years. Since we’ve found taking kids shopping (anytime really, but particularly during the festive season) can ratchet up stress levels, we’ve been turning more and more to the handmade (which means starting early).

presto meal plans

When it comes to feeding our family, we always have the best of intentions. We intend to shop efficiently; we intend to plan ahead; and we intend to be organized enough that we aren’t scrambling at 5 pm to make a healthy meal, only to rely on what is hiding in the depths of our freezer. In an effort to make our intentions a reality, we’ve been trying out the Organized Family Menu Planner by Glow Baby – to great success!

magic mushrooms

We’ve had a bit of resistance (misguided, we admit) to enrolling our kids in cooking classes, but all that changed after we tried out a Dizzy Whisk session. The tipping point? A bowl of mushroom soup.

let the countdown begin

Normally we’d feel a bit guilty about going all advent-y on you with two weeks to go before the countdown starts, but we’ve heard some popular calendars are selling out this year…so we wanted to share our advent thoughts:
