It goes without saying that parenting is tough. We feel that anyone who makes it through with their sanity intact and their children still speaking to them is doing awesome. Last week we made tutus; this week, in honour of the amazing things we do as parents every day, we make capes. Superhero capes. Of course, you could make one for your kiddos too if you really wanted to, but we're making some all for ourselves...

Can you get through a whole dinner party without somebody googling something by dessert? We can’t. The accessibility of information has fuelled our insatiable need to know, or, more often, to verify crazy facts right now. But for our kids we recognize that computers, tablets, smart phones, and such are primarily entertainment. Sure, it’s easy to download a few apps and let them have a go at it, but as they grow older we’d really love them to appreciate the internet as a source of learning. So we’re trying to introduce some more knowledge-based online content.

As the winter days seesaw from absolutely freezing and snowy, to warm and wet, we’re finding ourselves a bit challenged by keeping our kids engaged because no matter how much they love sledding, they get cold fast. So once you’ve topped them up with hot chocolate – also an excellent antidote to soggy, cool days – why not set them to work drawing a lion? Or set them loose on Draw Me A Lion’s lovely art projects, which are all about colouring, drawing, writing, cutting, gluing and more.

A few weeks ago we took the kids out for a Thunderbirds basketball double header (women’s and men’s teams) at UBC, and what a great family night out!

We’re ashamed to admit that when the Grizzlies left town we mourned the loss of live games and never gave a thought to the university teams – big mistake! Consequently, our kids (ages 5 and 8) had never seen a live basketball game until then. As we watched them watching the game we quickly remembered it’s so much fun live –especially for kids’ shorter attention spans—as it’s such a fast game with something happening at all times. And that night there was lots to cheer about as the women’s team pulled off a fabulous “come from behind” win, and the men led from start to finish.

What is silky soft against your child’s skin, helps regulate their body temperature, wicks away baby drool (and other emissions), and is anti-microbial and flame-retardant? Oh, and all naturally, without toxic chemicals? Why, it’s Merino wool. And we’ve found a great new line of merino wool baby infant gowns, sleepers and two piece sets that we think are just ducky.
