Ever since we launched yoyomama in 2007 we’ve been trying to figure out a way to give back. We've toyed with the idea of donating a percentage of our profits to a charity but not only did we have a hard time choosing just one to support, but as a small business, our donation wouldn’t necessarily go very far. So instead, we've decided to do what we do best and spread the word by profiling a different Canadian children's charity each month. Some will be big, some will be small, but all are working hard to improve the lives of Canadian kids. And to start, we’d like to introduce you to the Canadian Deafblind Association.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for … sugar-laden ice cream and popsicles in neon colours? Many of us have great summer memories of cool and tasty treats enjoyed with friends after a tough day in the sandbox. Nostalgia is great, but do your kids (and yourself) a favour this summer and skip those sugar-packed treats.

Ever since we’ve had kids we’ve gotten a lot kinkier. We have persistent aches and pains in our necks and backs and we’re much stiffer in the mornings than we used to be. Sure some of that is due to age, but we suspect that all the carrying, bending, pushing and being hung on, tugged at and jumped on that parenting brings may be in large part to blame. So we decided to treat ourselves to some t spheres based on the logic that if we’re healthier, happier and more flexible our kids will be too.

Summer is a great time to tackle potty training because your kids are wearing fewer clothes – heck they can even go bare when and if it’s appropriate – and would you rather unbutton, unsnap and unzip a snowsuit or pull down a pair of shorts? As with all kiddie transitions, potty training goes more smoothly for all concerned if you’re prepared, and training pants are a great way to start the switch from diapers to undies.

When it comes to kidlet party planning mamas seem to have bought into the myth that they should be able to do it all – bake a Martha Stewart-worthy cake, plan perfect, age-appropriate party games and design on-theme goody bags. But let’s face it, it’s a whole lot of work that’s not necessarily appreciated by the pint-sized party guests, sugary treats excepted of course, so at our most recent soiree we decided to call on the girls behind Party Arts for a little (okay a lot) of help.

Did you know that hearing loss affects one in ten of Canadians and Noise Induced Hearing Loss – often caused by overexposure to noise – is permanent and on the rise? Noise pollution caused by everything from power tools to heavy traffic to household appliances is just as unhealthy as other kind of pollution. So how can you protect your little ones’ ears (and your own)?
