Move over playdough there’s a new toy in town, PlayMais. It looks a bit like coloured cheese puffs, but is actually made of cornstarch and coloured with natural dyes and it’s also biodegradable, non-toxic and packaged “lightly” without a lot of excess.

When you have a child it’s a sad fact that so many of their necessities don’t blend with your pre-child décor. And, although there will always be spaces in your home that are designed by or for kids, thanks to the HandySitt high chair from Denmark, your dining room needn’t be one of them.

Do you have your little one’s Halloween costume all organized? Yeah, us neither. And since we’re not all that crafty, all the articles and sites we see promising “easy Halloween costumes” don’t seem to have easy enough options for us. Which is why Tail Wags Helmet Covers caught our eye. Sure, this fun, fleecy collection of wild but cute beasties and best friends, are actually designed for safety, but we don’t see why they couldn’t double as the foundation of your tiny tot’s costume. And they multi-task much more than your average costume, as they’ll get year-round use while your kidlets are bike riding, scooting, skiing or tobogganing.

When is a dress not a dress? When it’s a Dolly n’ Boo creation. Just one of these beautifully hand-crafted, local creations is both two dresses and a tunic top. How can one dress be all that? Well, it’s completely reversible, which means you get two dresses for the price of one and when you’re out and about should it get dirty you just flip it inside out and hey presto, a clean dress. Because of the long shoulder ties one dress fits a tot from size two to nine, and when it’s too short to be a dress, well then it works as beautiful tunic top. Talk about multi-tasking.

In honor of Earth Day tomorrow we asked one of our favourite crafty mamas, Keri from Craft Caravan for some ideas for eco-friendly crafts for kids. She suggested having fun with your household waste before it hits the compost or recycling bin. After all, a third of our household waste is paper products, and another third is organic waste.* Read on for Keri’s ingenious ideas for reusing common items before recycling them.

Dishcloths are not sexy. Dishclothes are not exciting. But a good dishcloth can be very satisfying. And when you start raving about your dishcloth to friends you know that you’ve either not got enough going on, or you’ve got a great dishcloth. We prefer the later theory.

Some mums can get by without ‘em, but we’ve always found that nursing pillows are a necessity. So when we got the chance to test drive the You Nursing Pillow from Positively Pillows, we jumped at the chance. The only problem? We’re not actually nursing any longer. So we passed our pillow onto an intrepid breastfeeding tester, who liked hers so much she wouldn’t give it back. “I can’t imagine one night without it,” she protested.

Household chores have never been our favourite thing, and that’s unlikely to ever change. So when products come along that make cleaning easier and more fun as well as less toxic, we’re all over that. We’ve been eagerly anticipating the Canadian arrival of one the newer entries into Method’s oeuvre, the omop. And it’s finally here.
Music for the Masses (The ’80s)

We’ve brought you kid-appropriate adult music from the ’60s and the ’70s, and now we’re revisiting the 1980s and some guilty pleasures from a decade most of us remember well. Frequently the butt of jokes (after all it was a time of big hair, leg warmers, and eyeliner for men), the ’80s produced a surplus of catchy pop tunes and numerous one-hit wonders; yet we can’t forget that the decade launched some very well respected musical acts – U2, INXS, Madonna, R.E.M., and Vancouver’s own Bryan Adams spring to mind – all that and it gave birth to the MTV generation…
Baby boon

We’re a big fan of Boon products, they’re innovative, they’re creative and they’re obviously designed by someone who knows what life with kids is really like. Which is why we wish we were in the market for a highchair – because their Flair Chair is finally available in Canada. The design is reminiscent of chairs in a hair salon, right down to the pneumatic lift for easy height adjustment (how many hours of by yourself enjoyment will that provide for your hubby and your toddler?).
