the glass is greener on the other side

Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | January 18, 2012

If one of your goals for 2012 was along the lines of going greener, like litterless lunches or banishing baggies, then we’ve discovered a perfect way for you to get green(er) – Wean Green. Founded in 2008, Wean Green launched with one product; tempered glass (which is four to five times stronger than drinking glass) [...]

Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | December 14, 2011

Every year we try and add a little more eco to our holiday chic. And this year’s greener finds and ideas are just as elegant and festive as their disposable counterparts.

What is silky soft against your child’s skin, helps regulate their body temperature, wicks away baby drool (and other emissions), and is anti-microbial and flame-retardant? Oh, and all naturally, without toxic chemicals? Why, it’s Merino wool. And we’ve found a great new line of merino wool baby infant gowns, sleepers and two piece sets that we think are just ducky. You look like you could use some time for yourself. Yes, we’re talking to you: the amazing mother who has spent the last few weeks changing the internal clocks of her family (no small feat) and getting them back to school; the fabulous mum who adds holiday and camp director to her already overflowing CV during the summer months; and the splendiferous mama who, let’s face it, does it all.

reading, writing and reducing

the scent of sleep

Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | August 31, 2011

Sleep. We all need it, we all love it, and more often than not, it’s as elusive as the Loch Ness Monster. And now that the kiddos are heading back to school and moving into a more structured routine, sleep becomes more important than ever. So we’re bringing out our arsenal of sleep aids to help us get those kids back to sleep for back to school.

baby biking bonanza

Unlike many of the intrepid commuters we see every day, bike riding went the way of the dodo in our life long before we had kids. We just didn’t have space to store bike trailers and traffic made us nervous, so, sadly, our wheels went from two to four. But then our kids become super cyclists and we wanted to join them…not only to keep an eye on what they were up to on the road, but they’d reminded us just how fun riding a bike can be. Since our whole family was in need of some new wheels, we checked out bikes from Canadian company Opus.

Toys. One of the things we didn’t fully anticipate with the birth of our kids was the excessive number of toys we would collect. And no matter how much fun our little ones have with their playthings, it’s just a matter of time before they outgrow them and move on. We’re trying to teach them to reduce and reuse as much as possible, so we headed out to Toy Traders in Langley with our less loved toys, to see what we could find.
