We’ll admit that we have a unique relationship with yoga. While we appreciate the results we get from it, sometimes we find tiny 20 year olds in their tiny yoga shorts a wee bit intimidating and any relaxing feelings we may get from the yoga class go right out the window as we imagine smothering them with our yoga mat. Or making them eat a cookie. So when we happened upon a Laughter Yoga class being offered by the Canadian Mental Health Association – Vancouver Burnaby branch, we thought this just might be the yoga class for us.

Spring has sprung in the Lower Mainland, with kids on school breaks, herons heading into mating season, and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. If you’re a nature enthusiast, you can see the herons at the Colony Farm Regional Park or the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Rotary Interpretive Centre, see the nighttime animals at Terra Nova Rural Park, or check out the amazing trees on the grounds at Riverview Hospital. There’s family fun to be had at Nikkei Museum & Heritage Centre’s Family Games Day, or at Surrey Art Gallery’s Family Day. West Vancouver is turning 100, and celebrates with performers and stories. And don’t miss St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations, including a skate, family carnival, and the always-popular St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Vancouver.

The city is still bustling with March Break activities, which do carry into this weekend as the kiddos try to come down from all the fun and gear up to get back to school. But if your March Break camps are over, or you’re looking for more family-focused events, there’s plenty to do in T.O. this weekend; take in a fun and interactive Dufflebag Theatre or Solar Stage show, head to the wild side with lions, tigers and camel rides at Exhibition Place, head outdoors for the first taste of spring with a High Park family nature walk, or head to the CN Tower to dress up as a Junior Mountie and get a fun photo with an RCMP officer. Whatever you do and wherever you go, we hope you enjoy the weekend and this great weather!

t’s Spring Forward this weekend, so don’t forget to set your clocks forward on Sunday and get ready to enjoy longer days and sunnier skies. With so much going on, you’ll love the extra daylight! There are nature walks and talks to be had in Lynn Valley, Stanley Park, and parks around the Lower Mainland. If you wish to stay indoors, you can see the Coastal First Nations Dance Festival, The Little Mermaid, or catch Shrek with the Cineplex Family Favourites program. There’s a big event for princesses of all ages, and budding scientists can get their game on at Iron Scientist. It’s also the weekend before Spring Break, and family programs have already started. Well, it’s that time of year again. . .March Break! Which means the kids are out of school and parents are likely looking for a reprieve from the increase in chaos. It’s shaping up to be quite the weekend in the Lower Mainland, and there is lots to do with your kids. Grab the family and get close to nature – in Stanley Park, at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, or the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre. If you feel like catching a performance, you can choose from A Year With Frog and Toad at Carousel Theatre for Young People, A Little Princess at the Surrey Arts Centre, or see the Vancouver Opera performing Hansel & Gretel. There’s art and culture to be had at Family FUSE Weekend, or the Festival du Bois and at the Vancouver Symphony’s Wall-to-Wall Percussion. Whatever you choose, we hope you enjoy it!

Another quiet(er) weekend here in Toronto, likely in anticipation of the March Break crush happening next week! Regardless, there’s still plenty of fun to be had in the city, with Leap Frog Week at the Zoo, a family nature walk in High Park to discover all things owl, theatre and animation workshops, Celtic fun at the ROM, and the final weekend to skate on the outdoor Natrel® Rink at Harbourfront Centre. Oh, Canada – it’s almost maple syrup season! With spring right around the corner, maple trees are about to be tapped, sap collected, and vats of the sweet, sticky stuff made for us to enjoy on our pancakes…or straight off a spoon, as per our preschooler. It’s another busy weekend in the Lower Mainland, and we’ve got all the details. Granville Island is hosting Winterruption, with dozens of art-inspired events for all ages. The world-renowned Harlem Globe Trotters are in town, with their one of a kind performance. There are also nature walks, a fish hatchery tour, and an afternoon with snakes and lizards. If you feel like shopping you can check out Blim or an indoor swap meet. And if you’re feeling creative, you can hit up one of several arts workshops or musical performances. There’s so much happening, your biggest challenge could be choosing what to miss!
