If you’ve got an adventurous kid on your hands, a nature explorer summer camp might be just the ticket this summer. Specially designed for kids 8 – 13 years old, your kids will get the chance to meet a raptor up close, dive under the sea, investigate a forest, become a farmer for the day, or island hop. Each of City Explorer’s Nature Explorers camp days combines a unique educational program with tons of hands-on fun for an amazing experiential learning adventure.
Campers start their weeklong exploration with their explorers passport. Their passport acts as a journal and a record of all their daily destinations and adventures. At the end of camp make sure to hang on to your passport! You can return to your favourite destination with special free & discounted family deals.
City Explorers has partnered with five incredible Vancouver destinations.
“Awaken your senses to the mystery & magic of life in a temperate rainforest (Stanley Park Ecology Society)” with our trip to Stanley Park! We’ll join knowledgeable and enthusiastic Ecology Society educators as they take our group through “towering trees, slithering slugs, incredible invertebrates & beautiful birds”. Campers will brush up on their environmental science through these curriculum-based programs that incorporate the BC Ministry of education approved Environmental Learning and Experience Guide. This year, discover hidden secrets in Stanley Park with “Forest Fundamentals”!
Start the day off right with a beautiful ferry ride to Snug Cove on Bowen Island. Campers are on the lookout for sea life as they travel from Horseshoe Bay. The adventure continues with a hike around Killarny Lake. Campers discover animals, plants and local natural phenomena through their Bowen Island Ecology booklet. Campers will cap off the day back in Snug Cove for Ice Cream and games.
Southland Farms which serves to “inspire children and their parents to care for the planet, the land and the animals” Depending on the topic of the day and their age group campers could explore compost and soil science, bee keeping and pollinators, Animal Husbandry, agriculture and climate change and get to bake their very chicken treats!
Campers will take a trip out to Delta’s Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society for their Onsite Education program. They get to meet a live raptor in the classroom (Sarah the resident barn owl) and during the tour have the opportunity to see eagles, falcons, hawks, owls and vultures. Campers will also learn about owl behaviour, sizes and types of raptors along with what they can do to help raptors and other wildlife and the function of OWL.
Get behind the scenes in the Vancouver Aquarium’s Wetlab! Investigate a live variety of invertebrate marine life first-hand and learn all about them from the Aquarium’s knowledgeable educators. See close up (and maybe even touch!) sea anemones, sea urchins, jellies, sea stars, sea cucumbers, shrimp, octopus and more!
