The holiday season is here and so are fun and festive celebrations, parades and parties. There is something happening in every city in Metro Vancouver this year! We’ve listed everything by city first and then by date so it’s really easy to find exactly what you are looking for.

5th Annual High Street Tree Lighting Ceremony

Our annual Holiday Show is back! To get you into the holiday spirit, we have a 40-piece marching band and a 65ft Christmas Tree that might be one of the tallest in all of Canada! Marching Band, Dancers, Stilt Walkers, Rudolf, Frosty and the most special guest of all (besides you) Santa! And snow will fall, we guarantee it! Show starts at 5:00 pm. Get here early for convenient parking underground.

Winter Jubilee

Winter Jubilee is a FREE community event celebrating the 28th annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Historic Downtown Abbotsford. Gather with us to eat, sing and be merry! There will be plenty of live entertainment, craft beer gardens, interactive children’s games + activities, handmade + artisan marketplaces, carolers, food trucks, a family photo booth and (of course!) Santa + Mrs. Claus!

Burnaby

Welcome Santa at Lougheed Town Centre
Saturday, November 18th, 11 am, Lougheed Town Centre, 9855 Austin Avenue, Burnaby 
The big guy is coming to town! Jolly Ol’ St. Nick arrives at Lougheed Town Centre on Saturday, November 18th and will be welcomed with a celebration at 11 am. Dance performances, live music, cookie decorating, snowfall and special guests from the North Pole will give Santa Claus the welcome to Lougheed that he deserves.

Edmonds Festival of Lights

Light up the Heights

Chilliwack Christmas Parade

Together with the City of Chilliwack, the three Rotary clubs in Chilliwack will once again be welcoming Santa Claus back to town for the Rotary Christmas Parade. The annual free, family-friendly event will kick off in downtown Chilliwack at 5:30 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Visit the website to see the `new parade route for 2017!

Coquitlam

Lights at Lafarge Opening Night
Saturday, November 25th, 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm, Town Centre Park, 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
Join in the magic of the opening night of the Lower Mainland’s largest free outdoor lights display. Expect stunning light displays, live entertainment and activities for the whole family. Be amazed as the lights to this hugely popular seasonal display are switched on for the first time. Free family fun! The lights remain on until Jan. 21, 2018 so visitors will have plenty of opportunity to walk around Lafarge Lake and enjoy the multiple themed zones.

A Lantern Affair: Our Family Day for the Holidays

The celebration on November 25 starts at 10 am. Enjoy fun and games until Sinterklaas arrives at 11 am. Lots of fun activities and gift giving, plus photo opportunities and delicious Dutch food. Buy your tickets in advance, they don’t sell them at the door!

Magic of Christmas Parade and Celebration
Saturday, December 2nd, 6 pm – 8 pm, Downtown Langley
The Magic of Christmas Parade has featured over 50 entries consisting of festive floats, bands, decorated vehicles, dance troupes, and community groups. This is an exciting event that is geared towards bringing the community together to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season.

Maple Ridge

Parade & Christmas in the Park
Saturday, December 2nd, 6 pm – 8 pm, Memorial Peace Park, 11925 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, Cost: Free
The sun is setting when the parade the starts and dazzling lights brighten the park. Join the carol singing, get your photos taken with Santa, and enjoy a mug of hot chocolate (bring your own mug, please!)

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train
Saturday, December 16th, 7:30 pm, Port Haney Station, 22300 River Road, Maple Ridge
Embracing the spirit of the season, Canadian Pacific Holiday Train has made its way across the county for years, collecting funds and food donations to local food banks. Join the tradition, check out the train with its wonderful lights and decorations, and enjoy live music from the boxcar stage. Bring a donation to the food bank and share the season with those in need. Next stops: Pitt Meadows (8:45 pm). Plus Port Moody (4:20 pm) and Port Coquitlam (6 pm) the following day.

Mission

Candlelight Parade
Friday, December 1st, 7 pm – 9 pm, downtown Mission
See over 70 float displays parade through Downtown Mission for this kick off to the Christmas festivities. Stick around for the after-party at The Stage!

New Westminster

Merry Fishmas at the FRDC
Saturday, December 2nd, 10 am – 3 pm, Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster 
Join us on December 2 for “Fishmas in a Winter Wonderland”! Come ‘round for games, crafts, chances to win prizes, and Fishmas cheer! Participate in our colouring contest to win a great prize, hang out in the Toddler Corner, and complete our salmon scavenger hunt! Visit the FRDC on December 2 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM to get festive! Admission is $5 per person or family rate.

Santa Parade
Saturday, December 2nd, 11 am – 12 pm, Columbia Street, New Westminster
Come and enjoy the great floats and entertainment at the 2017 Santa Claus Parade! The parade is set to march down historic Columbia Street Saturday, December 2. Make sure to arrive early for a good spot. It’s also always a good idea to bundle up and bring a hot drink to stay warm waiting for St. Nick.

North Vancouver

The Shipyards Christmas Festival
Saturday, December 2nd, 4 pm – 7 pm, The Shipyard, Wallace Mews Road, North Vancouver
The Shipyards will be transformed into a winter wonderland, filled with the sound of music, carols and the inviting smell of free warm coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. This family-friendly event will include free fun for all! Enjoy ornament/lantern making, gingerbread decorating, storytime tent, face painting, balloon creations, and Christmas carols. Of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be paying a visit. Take a picture with Santa from 5:30-7pm. Stick around for The Burrard Yacht club with sail by at 7:15 pm.

Pitt Meadows

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

Santa arrives off the boat on Steveston Public Wharf at 1 pm. Bring your camera and take a photo with Santa inside the Gulf of Georgia Cannery 2-4pm. Cannery Farmers’ Market, Christmas at the Cannery, Festival of Trees.

Lighting of the Fire Hall No. 5
Tuesday, December 5th, 3:30 pm – 6 pm, Fire Hall No. 5, 22451, Westminster Highway, Richmond, Cost: Free
Bring your friends and family out to the Hamilton Fire Hall No. 5 and join us in celebrating the lighting of this building with an afternoon of activities, entertainment, and refreshments.

Surrey

Surrey Tree Lighting Festival
Saturday, November 25th, 12 pm – 7 pm, Surrey City Hall, 13450 104 Avenue, Surrey
Juno award-winning singer-songwriter Ruth B. will headline the 2017 Surrey Tree Lighting Festival on November 25 at City Hall Plaza. An emerging Canadian star, Ruth B.’s track “Lost Boy” has amassed over 240,700,000 streams on Spotify, 670 million streams on YouTube and won her a 2017 Juno Award for “Breakthrough Artist of the Year”. The highlight of this spectacular family event will involve Mayor and Council joining Santa as they turn the switch to light the City’s official Christmas tree and kick off the holiday season in Surrey.

Christmas Open House

Start a family tradition this year with a visit to our annual holiday gathering. Sing along with classic carols played on our piano, indulge in sweet Victorian treats baked in the woodstove, and craft old-time Christmas décor for your tree.

Vancouver

Lights of Hope
Thursday, November 16th, 6 pm – 8 pm, St. Paul’s Hospital, 1081 Burrard Street, Vancouver
Join thousands of Vancouverites on Thursday, November 16th to experience the 2017 fireworks display at St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver for St. Paul’s Foundation biggest fundraiser of the year. Guests can grab a snack at the on-site food trucks and sip on hot chocolate while listening to some of Vancouver’s best choirs at this family-friendly event for the Lights of Hope charity initiative. Be there by 6:30 pm to see the light display switch on for the first time in 2017 as fireworks light up the sky! For those that miss the big countdown, the display will be up until January 9th, 2017.

Candytown – A Yaletown Holiday Festival
Saturday, November 25th, 12 pm – 7 pm, Yaletown, 1152 Mainland Street, Vancouver
Downtown Vancouver’s only free winter festival will transform Mainland Street into a winter wonderland. Lights and candy canes will adorn lamp poles and costumed characters will parade down the street. Holiday shoppers are invited to start their seasonal gift buying in Yaletown with local merchants as well as a specialty market carrying unique gifts and holiday treats. You’ll also find Mainland Street filled with local artisans, street performers, and live music.

Santa Claus Parade
Sunday, December 3rd, parade starts at 12 pm, 925 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, Cost: Free
TELUS presents the Vancouver Santa Claus Parade begins at noon on Sunday, December 3. The parade route begins in the West End and moves toward downtown on West Georgia Street, then turns down Howe Street at the Vancouver Art Gallery. As in previous years, two-hours of family entertainment will also be presented at Christmas Square prior to the parade.

West Vancouver

Light Up the Village
Friday, November 17th, 5:30 pm – 8 pm, The Village at Park Royal, 925 Main Street, West Vancouver
You’re invited to join Park Royal on Friday, November 17 from 5:30-8pm in the Village at Park Royal when they will Light Up The Village. Enjoy treats, live music, holiday dancing, a visit from Santa and many more seasonal activities including the lighting of the Village and the 30 foot Christmas tree. Countdown to lighting is at 6:45 pm sharp!

Santa’s Arrival
Saturday, November 18th, 10:30 am – 12 pm, Park Royal South, near Simons, Marine Drive & Taylor Way, North Vancouver
Santa Claus comes to Park Royal at 11 am on Saturday, November 18th! Activities begin at 10:30 am with face painting and a dance performance by Santa’s elves. Santa arrives at 11 am sharp. The first 100 children to visit Jolly Ol’ St. Nick will be gifted a Lindt Teddy chocolate bear.

White Rock

Christmas on the Peninsula 
Saturday, November 25th, 10 am – 6 pm, White Rock Community Centre and other locations, Uptown White Rock 
You can go anywhere in Uptown area, and find more festivities and events behind every corner. There are movies and stories, crafts and coffee shops, and festive music everywhere. Check the website for the event schedule.

Friends of the White Rock Library Christmas Open House
Saturday, December 9th, 1:30 pm – 4 pm, White Rock Library, 15342 Buena Vista Avenue, White Rock
Join the Friends of the Library for a Christmas open house with music by Gary Cyr and members of the South Surrey/White Rock Ukulele Circle. The music starts at 2 pm. Come early for refreshments and to enter for door prizes.
