5 family-friendly summer road trips from vancouver

Summer can fly by in an instant. Between summer camps, swimming lessons, playdates with friends, backyard barbecues, and endless sunscreen applications, it can be hard to relax and find that little slice of summer bliss. When we start to feel the drain of summer, we like to hit the road on a fun family road trip for a much-needed change of pace and scenery. After a weekend getaway, we feel recharged and relaxed and the kids have enough memories to fill their summer journals. Here are 5 awesome family-friendly summer road trips from Vancouver.

Saltspring Island

The biggest of the gulf islands is filled with wonderfulness. A ferry trip from Tsawassen to Long Harbour takes you to a fantastic oasis with goats and spas and artisans galore. Don’t miss the Saturday Market.

Long Beach, Washington

You’re probably familiar with Cannon Beach and the Oregon Coast, but we’re a big fan of Long Beach Washington, which is closer to Metro Vancouver and boasts the World Kite Museum and some of the best clam chowder we’ve ever eaten. They proclaim they have the world’s longest beach with winds and dunes that make it perfect for frolicking and kite flying!

Cowichan Valley

If you’re going to go to Vancouver Island, why not take a step away from Victoria and head to the spectacular Cowichan Valley. This agrarian oasis is home to many wineries, a phenomenal cidery (where you can stay in a yurt!), farm tours, and ocean side luxuries. It’ll be hard to stay only a few days.

Whistler

Whistler isn’t just for snow lovers! We’re big fans of the outdoor adventure possibilities in the summertime too. On our next visit we are definitely going to try paddling the River Of Golden Dreams. We hear there might be a fantastic spa or two in the area should one get a few free minutes to oneself.

Egmont

On the gateway of the Skookumchuk Narrows is the beautiful town of Egmont. Egmont is the ‘undiscovered jewel’ of the Sunshine Coast (shhh…don’t tell anyone) and is home to the Back Eddy Resort Geodesic Domes. These geodesic domes offer a unique glamping experience at the water’s edge.

So pack up some snacks and hit the roads for a memorable family road trip!

Yo, mama! Looking for more super awesome family activities this summer? We’ve got you covered:
