Welcome to yoyomama’s weekend guide! Your go-to list of family friendly fun things to do with kids in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. It’s also easy to get these event listings in our handy new app, OnTheGoKids, which takes our weekend guide and makes it mobile!

Who says there’s nothing happening in January? It’s the Family Literacy Day weekend, and many libraries are hosting special programs or story times. Monster Jam Tour is bringing the big trucks to town, and Strawberry Shortcake is on stage with her friends. Vive les Voyageurs Winter Festival will introduce you to the French-Canadian culture in Fort Langley. Plus, there’s also magic, movies, cloud watching, and plant folklore. Don’t miss the Winter Wander in Vanier Park, and the chance to visit several family-friendly attractions in one day.

Street Food City II
Wednesday, January 23rd – Friday, January 25th, 11 am – 3 pm & Saturday, January 26th – Sunday, January 27th, 11 am – 5 pm, Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza, Howe Street & West Georgia Street, Vancouver
The streets of Vancouver are home to a growing number of diverse food carts. This outdoor festival is your chance to sample their delicious dishes in one place! There will be heated tents for seating, and music for a fun atmosphere. Many food vendors will offer special festival deals, so bring your whole family down for lunch:

How to Talk to Children

Did you know that blowing raspberries is important for a baby’s language development? In only a few years, they’ll transition from cooing and babbling, to singing songs and telling jokes. Learn more about your little one’s language development in this one-day workshop. Please pre-register:

Little People Preschool Open House

Winter Wander at Vanier Park
Saturday, January 26th, 10 am – 5 pm, Vanier Park, 1100 Chestnut Street, Vancouver
Vanier Park is a home for some of Vancouver’s best family attractions: H.R. McMillan Space Centre, Vancouver Maritime Museum, and Museum of Vancouver. Bring your family over for a great day of science, history and art – all three destinations are open for the day for $5 for adults, and free for kids! You’ll also be able to enjoy music performances and other special programs:

Drumming with Fana Soro: A Free Workshop for Kids and Families (pictured)

Folk Stories of Familiar Plants

Plants play an important role in many stories from around the world. You’ll hear some of these as you walk through the garden. Then create a poinsettia craft and enjoy some hot chocolate after the walk:

SOS Carnival on Ice

Family Literacy Day
