Every November 11th Torontonians, along with others around the world, gather to commemorate, honour and remember those who made sacrifices during war times. Remembrance Day, the 11th day of the 11th month, marks the end of World War I, and reinforces hope for the peaceful world we want to pass on to future generations. The city runs a number of ceremonies throughout the GTA, and other organizations also hold events. Oh and we love the fact that there’s an app for that, yes there’s a Canadian Remembrance Day iPhone App listing ceremonies near you and more. Here’s a list of public Remembrance Day ceremonies you can attend in the GTA:

City Of Toronto Services:

Remembrance Day Ceremony, Queen’s Park
Friday, November 11th, 10:45 am, Queen’s Park, Veteran’s Memorial (front lawn of main legislative building), University Avenue & College Avenue), Toronto
On the front lawn of the Ontario Legislature stands the Ontario’s Veterans’ Memorial, a 30-metre-long granite wall, etched with scenes from Canada’s military history. The memorial is dedicated to every man and woman who courageously served to protect our freedom. On November 11th, there will be a Ceremony of Remembrance, which includes the chance for the public to pin a poppy on the People’s Wreath. There will also be a Youth Pledge of remembrance: www.citizenship.gov.on.ca

Remembrance Day Ceremony At Fort York
Friday, November 11th, 10:45 am – Noon, Fort York National Historic Site – Strachan Avenue Cemetery, 100 Garrison Road, Toronto
Fort York and the Toronto Chapter of the IODE (Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire) are proud to present the annual Remembrance Day Service at the Strachan Avenue Military Cemetery, just west of Fort York. The service will feature military costumed staff from the Fort and standard-bearers from the IODE. A processional parade, led by fife and drum, will gather at the parking lot at 10:45 a.m. and make its way to the cemetery. This evocative site of the War of 1812 is a poignant setting to honour soldiers who fell in the War of 1812, the Rebellion Crises, Crimean War, Northwest Rebellion, South African War, two World Wars, Korean War and recent conflicts. The Larks, Still Bravely Singing … A Remembrance Day Concert
Friday, November 11th, 7:30 pm, Eastminster United Church, 310 Danforth Avenue, Toronto
Presented by the Toronto Choral Society. The concert salutes the men and women who have heroically served in the Canadian military in times of war—and in the cause of peace. The one-hour concert includes music, historic visuals, and radio broadcasts knit together with words and thoughts from Canadians in service and their families. Toronto Zoo’s 26th Annual Remembrance Day Ceremony
Friday, November 11th, 10:55 am – Noon, Toronto Zoo, Waterside Theatre, 361A Old Finch Avenue, Scarborough
Veterans and the general public are invited to join in remembering and honouring the many wartime sacrifices that Canadians have made for their country. Admission for veterans and all guests attending the ceremony is free from 9:30 am – 11 am: www.torontozoo.com
