Back to school means almost back to normal…and perhaps, back to sanity? With tots back in teacher’s care, it’s time for some “you” time. We mean it … time to indulge in you! And one of our favourite ways of indulging is to put ourselves in the hands of the professionals for a ‘Mani-Pedi’ … so we got Glossed!

Glossed Studio is a tiny studio in Mt Pleasant that offers Bio Sculpture, a healthy alternative to traditional gel nails. Bio Sculpture Gel is applied over natural nails, helping weak, brittle or flaking nails grow strong … without a damaging and toxic acrylic or hard gel product. And Bio Sculpture products are acetone and formaldehyde-free, with a five star safety rating, which makes them safe to use on pregnant and nursing women.

Glossed Studio is run out of owner Keely Anderson’s home, so if you head off to get Glossed be prepared to meet a neighbour or two in the apartment building, and an adorable dog in the studio. We loved the intimacy of the small studio, and we think supporting an independent stylist is brilliant. And because Keeley runs her shop from home, her prices are significantly lower than comparable services in a larger salon.

We got ourselves a Bio Sculpture manicure and a regular pedicure at Glossed studio in order to get ourselves in back-to-school pampered shape. Our pedi left our feet lovely and soft, but we were most impressed with the manicure. We’ve had gel nails applied before and they felt thick and cumbersome, and left our nails thin and brittle. The Bio Sculpture nails, however, didn’t feel heavy and thick like a gel nail, yet were as shiny and durable. Our mani survived intense exercise, gardening, and many a dishwashing completely unscathed. And because our nails were simply buffed clean as opposed to filed, when we removed the polish, our nails looked as good as new.

With our nails looking so great we think it’s time to plan a girls night out. After all, we think we’ve earned a little more indulgence…
