the most important meal of the day
When we think back to the days of our misspent youth, we recall early morning (or late night, depending on how you looked at it) breakfasts that involved plates piled high with grease, and bottomless pits of coffee. Nowadays, we still crave the bottomless coffee…perhaps for different reasons…but the plates of grease aren’t as appealing. We love the thought of a relaxing brunch, but our wee ones certainly don’t have the patience, or the appetite, for it. Thank goodness we found Cora.
For the East Coast born and bred, Cora is a breakfast institution. Started in 1987 in Montreal, Quebec, this once tiny restaurant chain has grown to over 120 restaurants primarily in Quebec and Ontario…and now in Coquitlam, BC. The bright yellow interior, playful décor, and seven page breakfast menu are standard to all restaurants, as is a commitment to making sure every customer leaves with a full belly and a smile on their face.
We were introduced to Cora by an Ontario transplanted mama who had spent many a morning curing a sleep-deprived night in the resto. She professed her love of the fresh fruit cocktail and the fruit sculptures that grace every plate. Not being one to turn down a good fruit display, we decided to check it out. And we weren’t disappointed.
The first thing we noticed about Cora was the smiles. Everyone was smiling. From the servers, to the patrons (young and old), to the sunshine on the wall – grins abounded. The restaurant was spacious enough to accommodate even the largest stroller-laden mum and baby group, and we were pleased to note the number of highchairs and boosters available. After perusing our menus, we were offered coffee and the fresh strawberry, pineapple, banana, and orange fruit cocktail of the day. We soon dove in to our breakfasts. We chose the Mushroom and Brie Eggs Benedict, which was perfectly cooked and delicious. And the giant fruit sculpture that adorned our plate did not disappoint. Our date’s breakfast was equally delightful and the bill was certainly reasonable.
The restaurant is extremely kid-friendly, and we think it’s the perfect destination for Sunday breakfast with the family, or even a Tuesday breakfast meeting with the boss. Just make sure you come with an empty stomach…

Always on the hunt for good breakfast places. Tried it on the weekend after your suggestion and it was good. My toddler loved the fruit sculptures! Thanks for this!
