apple of our eye

We often hear, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Good advice, especially now that apple season is almost here! But even if the apples aren’t quite ready for picking, Chudleigh’s Farm is still a great day trip destination for a fun-filled family outing.
Located in the Milton area about 45-minutes west of Toronto, Chudleigh’s has been operating since 1957. Three generations later, the 100-acre farm which boasts 28,000 apple trees, has expanded beyond a “pick your own fruit” destination; they now offer a large children’s play area, a bakery and retail store, and a picnic area to enjoy some lunch and a famous Apple Blossom (yum!). They also host birthday parties, and run self-guided tours of the farm, which include a wagon ride through the orchard, a romp in the straw-filled play area, a visit with the farm animals, and some delicious apple cider.
Popular with school groups, Chudleigh’s has been entertaining little ones for a long time. In fact, we used to visit as kids – many, many years ago – for hay bale jumping and other outdoors fun, apple picking, and of course a baked treat (or two). The Children’s Entertainment area has grown since then, and now includes four slides, a straw maze, tractors to play on, tire swings, a sand pit, wagon rides, face painting and balloons (weekends only), a nature trail walk, and pony rides. The only downside to a day trip to Chudleigh’s? Trying to get the kids back in the car to head home!
During apple harvest season (late August through October) the farm offers a large variety of apples for pick-your-own. And while we love biting into a right-off-the-tree apple, there’s nothing quite like a homemade apple pie made with love from apples the kiddos picked themselves!
