If you’re anything like us, the great outdoors is something you‘d like your family to get to know better. But all the gear and preparation you need before heading into nature can be overwhelming, especially with a kid or two in tow. Thankfully, the good folks at Active Baby know a thing or two about getting you, and your kids, outside – in comfort and style.
Active Baby was founded in 2009 in North Vancouver, the Lower Mainland’s centre for outdoor recreation. And don’t let the name fool you – Active Baby carries more than just ‘baby stuff’. Located in Capilano Mall, the tiny store is filled to the brim with strollers, car seats, organic clothing, kids camping gear, blankets, and more, for babies to school aged kids. They hunt down high-quality brands sturdy enough to withstand an adventurous outdoor lifestyle, that are also environmentally and socially friendly. Think Columbia, North Face, Uppa Baby, Hatley, and Bugaboo, to name a few.
So with camping season in mind, we headed to Active Baby. We were suitably impressed with their range of sleeping bags, travel beds, backpacks, and food containers perfectly sized for the little camper. Our favourite find was the Little Star Sleeping Bag, which grows with your kiddo so you can use it from toddler to preschooler. It was so cozy looking we were sad they didn’t have an adult version.
We also loved the simple and reasonably priced clothing and accessories available for babies and toddlers. The cute Hatley raincoats and Columbia windbreakers won’t break the bank, which is key as our kids seem to outgrow their clothes in 10-seconds flat.
Active Baby is worth the trek to the North Shore if you need to stock up on outdoor gear and active living equipment, and you can always shop online. In fact, their motto “Growing Active and Living Green” has us so inspired , we’re thinking of breaking out our hikers and heading out to do the Chief … maybe.
