We all love birthdays, and this weekend is no exception! As we celebrate Canada’s Birthday on July 1st, there are plenty of themed activities for the whole family, such as the CHIN picnic, Toronto Ribfest, and Canada Day celebrations at Ontario Place. And with all the fireworks this weekend, plan for a few late nights so the kids can enjoy all that the City has to offer. Happy Birthday, Canada!

According to the calendar, summer has arrived. According to the weatherman…not so much. Be that as it may, we are choosing to embrace summer and all it has to offer: Fresh fruit at the markets, flip-flops and pedicures, and frozen yummy treats. There’s no question there are 101 ways to spend money keeping the kids entertained during the summer. Camps. Amusement Parks. Summer programs. You might as well keep the credit card out. Which is why we love Toronto’s Historic Museums, which are operated by the City of Toronto and offer low cost (or free) programs, education, and fun. Kids can explore the museums’ heritage, and get hands-on, historical education with programs such as period cooking classes, arts and crafts, musical performances, old-fashioned games and activities, and more.

protecting the peepers

Corey Hart may have worn his sunglasses at night, but the rest of us tend to wear them in the daylight hours when the sun is out and our peepers need protection. While a great pair of aviator or cat’s eye shades may be a fashion statement, sunglasses are more than just the perfect summer accessory. According to Health Canada, properly chosen sunglasses protect your eyes against damage from UV rays, bright light, and blue light.

If you’re anything like us, the great outdoors is something you‘d like your family to get to know better. Thankfully, the good folks at Active Baby know a thing or two about getting you, and your kids, outside – in comfort and style.
