the year of the ox-o

We love ourselves a new kitchen gadget.  A vegetable peeler with a good handle can send our hearts a-fluttering.  So imagine our delight when we discovered one of our favourite gadget makers also makes great toddler feeding accessories.  Hooray for OXO tot!

We’ve always loved our OXO kitchen gear, so we couldn’t wait to check out the toddler line. We tested the Flip-Top Snack Cup and the Tot Training Cup. Both are BPA, phthalate and PVC free (as is everything in the line), and have the non-slip grips that we have come to know and love from OXO.

The Flip-Top Snack Cup is small, so easy for little hands to hold. And the compact shape is perfect for tucking into a diaper bag or a stroller cup holder for snacks on the go. A generous opening provides easy access to the munchies stored inside, and the lid stays attached so it won’t roll into the sandbox and disappear.  Our toddler tester loved snagging his snacks from the cup, but he did find the snap top difficult to open, which we suppose is both a good and bad thing.

The Tot Training Cup can help ease the transition from sippy to regular cup.  A translucent lid insert with perforations around the edge controls the flow of liquid when your kid tilts the cup to drink, and also minimizes spillage during the learning process.  When the tiny sipper is ready, the perforated lid insert is easy to remove and the Training Cup converts to a regular cup. The grips make the cup easy for little hands to hold, and the translucent cup shows just how much is left. And all of the cups in the OXO tot line have interchangeable lids. While we didn’t get to test them, we really love the look of the rest of the OXO tot line…particularly the special drying racks and dishwasher baskets for tot-sized dishware.

We have high hopes that using the OXO tot line will transition our little eaters into big kitchen helpers, ready to use our grown up OXO utensils and become sous chefs.  Hey…you never know!
