If the thought of dressing your kiddo in logo-emblazoned wear makes you shudder, we’d like to introduce you to Super Cool Kids Clothing (SCKC) – a Toronto-based kid’s clothing line that is adorably chic and comfy, and decidedly un-branded.

Frozen treats are awesome. Ice cream, popsicles, freezies, smoothies, gelato … mmmmm … gelato. So needless to say we ran, not walked, to Vancouver’s frozen hotspot, Bella Gelateria.

We love ourselves a new kitchen gadget. A vegetable peeler with a good handle can send our hearts a-fluttering. So imagine our delight when we discovered one of our favourite gadget makers also makes great toddler feeding accessories. Hooray for OXO tot!

dressing the bump

One of pregnancy’s many challenges is dressing in a style that isn’t evocative of a Rose Bowl float. Comfortable doesn’t have to be unattractive, but a lot of maternity wear is (sadly) pretty unsightly. Thank goodness we found the Baby On Board Apparel (BOBA) three-way legging!

vancouver: what to do, what to do?

There are so many interesting and entertaining things to do this weekend (and beyond) we hardly know where to start! The Vancouver and Surrey Children’s Festivals are must-sees, and there are some fantastic community carnivals happening. Kids can also learn about bogs, slugs, and tracking animals, and enjoy a bike treasure hunt and a kids fishing derby. Sweet!

toronto: what to do, what to do?

So many things to do this weekend, so little time … unless of course you can find some kid-free time to enjoy an afternoon at the spa! Otherwise, grab the family and head outdoors for a spring bird festival, or to walk or run for some great causes. There’s also fun indoor stuff in case the sun isn’t shining, like the Wings & Wheels Heritage festival or worm composting at the Science Centre. Our thumbs are only the lightest shade of green, but we love nothing more than a freshly-picked tomato from our own garden. We grew up gardening, and we had a connection with the earth. But it seems today’s kiddos are more urban and less … well … dirt-loving. However, you can inspire your kids to get down and dirty in the garden, and back to nature, with these handy tips!

One of the things we love most about Canada is the cultural diversity. It’s easy to find culture-rich pockets and places in cities across our beautiful country, like at Nikkei Place in Burnaby.

take the cake

As kids, we remember blowing candles out on homemade birthday cakes shaped like trains, bunny rabbits, or a beloved Sesame Street character. But these days, with idols like Dora and Toy Story’s Woody, our kids’ cake decorating wishes tend to be more, well, elaborate or in some cases impossible. Which is why we love that we can delegate this particular birthday task to Toronto’s Sweet Things.

good old fashioned clean

Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | May 20, 2011

Until we had kids, we never realized the portion of our life that we could lose to doing laundry. It’s a Sisyphean endeavour – all the sorting and the pre-treating and the washing and the drying and the folding and the putting away. And then doing it all over again. So when we tried out Nellie’s All-Natural Cleaning Products, we did so with the hopes that they could put a little bit of joy in our most hated of household chores.
