steel this

Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | April 29, 2011

You love your stainless steel containers for snacks and lunches, but when it comes to storing leftovers they’re not quite so handy (they look good, but what’s inside?) You love your glass Pyrex (great visibility), but you’re not so keen on the plastic lids. So what’s a leftover storing mama to do? Well, you could invest in Onyx’s new Glass and Stainless Steel Airtight Containers?

vancouver: what to do, what to do?

There’s a carnival, a festival, fun with life-size cement trucks, an ecological treasure hunt, and an opportunity to give back this weekend with several park cleanup activities. And a sure sign that summer will arrive (no matter how slowly) – Playland opens for the season! The Vancouver Marathon is happening this Sunday, which means lots of road closures and crowds along the marathon route. So be sure to check out their site before you head out!

charity begins at home: save your skin

As we begin to see encouraging glimpses of spring, lovely visions of summer and sun fill our heads. And warm thoughts always make us think of the children’s (and parent’s) charities we love — like the Save Your Skin Foundation.

We’re guessing you already have your local playground pretty well sussed out, but what about when you’re out and about, or if you want to explore a little farther afield? We asked you to rate your favourite playgrounds around town, as no one’s puts them to a more rigorous test than the mums (and kids) who frequent them.

market madness

Filed Under Going Green, Places | April 26, 2011

There’s nothing quite like the freshness and quality of buying from a Farmer’s Market. So we love that in Toronto we don’t have to wait until summer to get our hands on the goods. St. Lawrence Market, located right in the middle of the city, is filled with market merchants, is open year-round, and is a perfect Saturday outing for the whole family.

It’s going to be a super hopping few days for the Easter Bunny this weekend in Toronto! There are Easter egg hunts scattered throughout the GTA, plus holiday-themed events with crafts, music, and entertainment for the kiddos. If you plan to keep your egg hunts in the backyard but still need some out-of-the-house fun, Disney’s The Lion King makes its return to the city, and there’s a Party for the Planet at the Zoo. ‘Hoppy’ weekend!

generation next

This feeling may tap into our childhood fantasies of being Queen of the Universe, but we find the opportunity to mold young, impressionable minds to be one of the more rewarding parts of parenting.

So on Earth Day (or almost), it seems appropriate to talk about how we can use our awesome powers for good rather than evil.

dan, dan, the food man

Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | April 19, 2011

You know when a friend has a baby and your plan is to make her some meals to freeze and pull out when needed? But you’ve got kids too. Somehow, you can never quite pull it off. Well, now you can get the glory of providing the food without having to actually, you know, cook it — or even deliver it. All thanks to Dan Close Food Concepts.
