While we have quite the collection of reusable cups we’re always intrigued with new options emerging onto the market, especially if they offer functionality that’s outside the ordinary. Which these three finds for coffee, tea and sippy cup lovers all do!

Coffee: Planetary Design Double Shot 2.0
Made from double-walled, restaurant-grade stainless steel, this mug is actually an ingenious   French press. And it has a little coffee hidey hole in the bottom so you can take your choice of ground beans out and about with you and make your coffee whenever you want, as long as you can get your hands on boiling water. Handily, it’s also is designed to fit into most car cup holders. Less handily the plunger can go rogue and bonk you on the nose while you’re taking a sip. Great for French press lovers who are particular about their brew: www.polkadotpond.ca

Tea: Copco Tea Thermal
Tea lovers who can’t get good tea on the go can now brew tea wherever they can find boiling water. This Tea Thermal has a removable infuser for loose leaf tea or tea bags and it keeps your tea toasty warm for a good hour or so. We tried the BPA-free plastic version but if we were to do it again we’d snag their stainless steel model which also is designed to allow you to stop steeping your tea without removing the infuser, which is awfully handy if you’re brewing in the car or you get distracted by a toddler tantrum: www.copco.com

Sippy: Lollacup (pictured)
This cup isn’t just cute, it’s adorable. But on a more practical level it’s also BPA and phthalate-free and has an easy-to-sip-from valve-free straw that can’t be released from its moorings by tiny hands. This valve-free design makes it easy for kids from nine months on up to sip from. The top fit snugly and though not guaranteed to be spill-proof in your diaper bag, we haven’t had any leaking issue with it. Plus, because this cup doesn’t resemble your average sippy, it’s easy to spot when you’re sifting through a slew of stuff at the end of a playdate:  babybot.ca

Right before press time we  read this study about BPA-free plastics also leaching hormone-like chemicals but its one study and reaction to it has been mixed, with no clear answers as yet. Here’s a story about the study in layperson terms that’s worth a read, especially the part about not putting your plastic items in the dishwasher or microwave. We will be following this closely and keep you posted. And in future we will only search out glass and stainless steel eating and drinking alternatives to share with you.
