Gluten-Free-Epicurian

We have a confession…whenever we hear the words ‘gluten free’, we also think ‘flavour free, fun free and yuck-ee’.  Thankfully, Gluten Free Epicurean has come to the rescue.

Delainy, the magical baker behind Gluten Free Epicurean, has lived with Celiac disease for the past ten years.  A photographer by trade, but a baker by passion, she longed for the decadent wheat filled goodies that she couldn’t indulge in, so she decided to make them.  Hooray!

Her goodies are beautifully presented, which is great because we love a good looking pastry.   The texture is moist, decadent and rich, just as we’ve come to expect from the most luscious of wheat filled baked goods.  Many of the gluten free goodies we have tried tend to be overly ‘healthy’ assuming that anyone eating gluten free also is avoiding sugar, dairy, and dare we say it, flavour.

Delainy uses a fabulous assortment of rice flours, potato starches, bean flours and other magical ingredients to bake her bounty.  Wherever possible, she uses organic, sustainable and free-range products.  She also does special order treats  and can adapt to any special need like vegan, nut free, dairy free, and of course, gluten free.  She doesn’t do fancy writing or decorating, but then again, neither do we.  We think her treats would be great to bring to parties for the gluten free kiddos in your life that don’t get to indulge in traditional goodies.

We love that Gluten Free Epicurean is a local lassie, because we can get her goodies freshly baked, as opposed to the frozen variety that is prevalent in our local groceries.  They can be found at Our Town Café, Quejos, Buddha Full and Blim Community Market.  Check out their Facebook page for more current updates on new flavours and locations.  Make sure you bring a full wallet with you…these treats are delicious, and like most gluten free baked goods, they are also much pricier than their wheaty counterparts.

But you can’t put a price on good taste.

They are the most delicious thing ever! (considering the non-traditional ingredients) We always try them at the Blim Market. I have to say my 3 year old is one of her best clients (or at least her best sampler) hahaha
