well, hello!

It’s that time of year when the lucky among us may be forsaking our Canadian shores for sunnier, warmer climes. And key to travel with tots is keeping them entertained. Technology is your friend in these situations, check out our list of great iPhone apps for kids for some ideas, but adding some good, old fashioned fun to your bag of travel tricks is equally important. And one thing you’ll want to pull out of that bag is Hello Hanna’s Hello Books.
Hello Hanna’s books come in a pack containing an accordion folded backdrop that you turn into a story thanks to the removable, buildable stickers included. With cupcake, robot, monkey and princess-themed books, and at just five inches high (they’re perfect for small spaces, like airplane trays), there’s bound to be one that appeals to your tot. Each set contains everything you need but it’s not colour-within-the-lines sort of stuff, but merely a creative starting point. Not traveling? They also make great gifts as they’re easy to mail and you can be sure the recipient’s mama will thank you for sending something that will keep her child engaged.
And if you’re not going any farther than your nearest kid-friendly restaurant you might want to check out Hello Hanna’s placemat sets. These take the idea of bringing along a colouring book and crayons to a whole new level. Each set of eight placemats includes four different designs with pop up robots, jungle animals or girls that can be decorated with stickers and when that gets old there’s also an activity area to fill with fun on the back. They also demonstrate cutlery placement, which is always handy in our continual quest for better manners. In addition to dining out these are also great for decorating the table at a birthday party or other kid-laden events.
We do wish they had more designs to choose from as we’d like to have a collection of these to pull out when needed. And just a warning, you’ll want to play with them too, so you may have to battle with your babe for creative supremacy.
