As you can imagine, what with Christmas falling this Saturday, it’s not the busiest of weekends. But don’t forget to check out our handy dandy list of ongoing holiday happenings to take in with your family over the next week or so. And aside from a weekend guide next Thursday, just in time for New Years, this is our last email for 2010 so we wanted to wish you happy, healthy, holidays for all and we’ll be back to our regular programming on January 4th!
Bloedel Floral Conservatory – Jewel Box of Lights
December 3rd to Sunday, January 2nd, see schedule for times, West 33rd Ave @ Cambie Street, Vancouver
It’s the 41st anniversary of the Bloedel Conservatory and they’re all decked out for the holidays with magical lasers, twinkling waterfalls of lights, a trio of tubas, a wishing tree and more. Plus they’ll be selling special bird ornaments by donation which will go to support the Exotic Orchid Show the Conservatory is planning for 2011: vancouver.ca/parks/parks/bloedel
Christmas in Kerridale: Free Horse & Carriage Rides for Christmas
Thursday December 23rd, 11 am – 4 pm, Yew St & 41st Avenue, Vancouver
If you’re hitting up Kerrisdale for some last minute shopping then be sure to take advantage of the last day of free horse and carriage rides. Plus there’ll be strolling quartets singing festive songs and Santa will be on hand with chocolate: www.kerrisdalevillage.com
The Making Place
Sunday, December 26th, Noon – 4 pm, Vancouver Art Gallery, In the Gallery, 4th floor, 750 Hornby Street, Vancouver
On this, the fourth Sunday of the month, the Art Gallery’s Making Place is going ahead as usual with their hands-on workshop featuring collaborative and independent activities for kids including sketching, origami, plasticene and more. Steveston Santa Claus Parade
Thursday, December 23rd, 7 pm – 7:30 pm, starts at Hunt Street, First Ave – Third Ave, down to Moncton, then to Steveston Community Centre, Richmond
The Steveston Rotary is hosting this parade featuring Santa, a variety of floats, a marching band, festive entertainment and more. The Rotarians have collected non-perishable food donations which will be delivered to the Richmond Food Bank and you can make donations during the parade for the Richmond school breakfast program: www.steveston.bc.ca
Christmas Eve Skate
Friday, December 24th, 11 am – 2 pm, Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex, 2150 Wilson Avenue, Port Coquitlam
Round up your family and friends and drop in to enjoy a festive skate featuring music, lights and crafting. There’ll be reindeer guessing games, free hot chocolate and more: www.portcoquitlam.ca
