walk and roll
Filed Under Stuff, Tips & Tricks | November 17, 2010
It’s time for our next installment of yoyo radio. And this week, in honour of his new CD Walk ‘n’ Roll, which is about to drop, we asked children’s musician Will Stroet, to share a playlist of kid-friendly (but grown up) tunes with us. Oh and we’ve taken a sneak listen to his new tunes and we suspect your kids will have this one in heavy rotation in no time.
New Railroad ~ Crooked Still
I love train songs. My dad was a locomotive engineer for CN so they make me think of him.
Sweet Inspiration ~ The Derek Trucks Band
It’s an extremely uplifting song. I listened to it every day while on tour last summer.
Something’s Gotta Give ~ Ella Fitzgerald
She’s a great singer and our little daughter Ella’s namesake.
Ode To a Frozen Boot ~ James Hill
He’s the greatest ukulele player playing a very Canadian song.
Cloudburst ~ Lambert, Hendricks and Ross
This song has amazing wordplay, amazing speed, and is a super swinging tune.
Heart of Gold ~ Neil Young
No playlist would be complete without Neil. This is one of many favourites.
Rude Mood ~ Stevie Ray Vaughan
This song is what inspired me as a child to pick up the guitar.
I Wish ~ Stevie Wonder
This is one of the coolest grooves ever and has great lyrics about reminiscing about childhood. As a children’s musician, I get to relive my youth every day!
Bike Safety Boogie ~ Will Stroet
This is one of my favourite songs to play live. It has great actions and fun lyrics about a great activity for kids and adults alike.
Jasper ~ Aidan Knight
This is a new favourite and reminds me of a good friend who just moved to Jasper!
And if you’re looking for your favourite holiday tunes that we blipped last week during our rocking virtual holiday potluck just scroll down the list and you’ll see them below Will’s list. There’s everything from Bing to Sesame Street.
And if you’re in Metro Vancouver you can catch Will Stroet live at his CD release party for Walk ‘n’ Roll this Sunday, November 21st at Performance Works on Granville Island.
