clever clips

With the holidays approaching (let the parties and eating begin!) many of us will be looking for ways to let our pants out versus trying to keep them up. But for those parents with a “skinny minny” to keep clothed, stopping pants from drooping down on hips and dragging around ankles can be a constant battle. And the clothespin on the back of the pants? Not the best look. Thankfully, Clippopotamus has a clip for that.
Founded in 2007 by Alexandria Durrell, mom of two and self-proclaimed “crafty sort”, Clippopotamus (or “Clippo”) makes cute yet practical accessories for kids, including the bestselling Pant Clippo. When Alex couldn’t find the perfect barrette for her one-year old daughter’s hair, she decided to make her own. The hair clips took off, and it wasn’t long before Alex realized she had a real business on her hands. To break out of the saturated hair clip market, she went to her customers and asked for feedback. With daily frustrations such as droopy pants and lost soothers to contend with, Alex expanded the line with unique products to fill these parents’ needs, and everything’s 100% hand-made in Canada.
There are Mitten Clippos to save parents the annoyance of starting each winter with five unmatched mittens. To keep clothes clean during an impromptu snack or meal on the go, the Bib Clippo will turn anything into a food catcher. The Flair hair clips with sweet embellishments would make great stocking stuffers and their new clip-on Bow Tie is a perfect complement to the holiday sweater vest.
We loved that the Pant Clippo held our little tester’s jeans right at her waist, and once attached, stayed put. Easy to use with a snap on each end, even little fingers can manage the clip. Pant Clippos attach to virtually any type of pant or skirt, and don’t require belt loops. We also found the clip useful to keep easy-to-lose socks together at daycare, and to make sure a new winter hat didn’t stray far during a chilly walk.
With so many fun fabrics, including soon-to-be released organic options, we’re hooked, or “clipped” on Clippo.
