It’s that time again. We’re back with another instalment of yoyo radio. And this month we’ve asked Canadian children’s entertainer, the Purple Pirate (aka Dustin Anderson) for a list of kid-friendly songs that’ll get your toes tapping and your muscles moving. He believes X-ercise marks the spot and loves to dance and he brings that love of movement to all his shows because children love to move and groove too. We think this selection makes a good workout playlist as well and it even features an exclusive song you won’t find anywhere else:
Fly Paper ~ K-os
A wonderful dance tune by a great Canadian rapper.
Boogie Oogie Oogie ~ Taste of Honey
The greatest disco song ever – I have used this song in several shows over the years because it is so much fun!
Every Day I Write The Book ~ Elvis Costello
A funky highlight of the 80s.
Pass the Peas ~ Maceo Parker
A live recording of this amazing horn player and his equally talented band. I can only imagine the whole room dancing to it. I used for the finale of my FUN-damentals of Fitness show for a couple years.
Isn’t She Lovely ~ Stevie Wonder
This is a classic Stevie where he honours his infant daughter in a beautiful and danceable way.
Rush Over ~ Me’shell Ndegéocello
I love the base line in this song.
Boogie Wonderland ~ Earth Wind and Fire
I use this in my Treasure Hunt Show. It is a timeless dance tune that everyone loves to boogie down to.
Mambo Number 5 ~ Lou Bega
Fun, fast and great song to dance to.
Every Kinda People ~ Robert Palmer
Once again a great baseline with a great message. Robert didn’t create the tune but he did a great job of recording it.
Purple Pirate Power ~ West Coast Funk Mob
This Vancouver-based funk group made a really fun theme song for the Purple Pirate in 2003. So much fun. The group has split but this song lives on. You can download it here.
