Babies are messy. They get food everywhere, they never wipe their feet and they have a tendency to fill their diapers with well…a whole lot of poo. Yes, we’re talking about poo again. But if you’re honest you probably talk about it a lot more than you did pre-baby. If you use cloth diapers, one of the big challenges can be finding a detergent that gets out the stink and stain while still being friendly to both your baby’s bottom and the planet.
In our unending efforts to remove the poo from our lives, we tried out Rockin’ Green Cloth Diaper and Laundry Detergent. Rockin’ Green is phosphate-free and 100% vegan, which means no animal by-products or testing. And it comes in a variety of yummy smelling formulations – think Lavender Mint or Mötley Cleän – and you can get it scent-free as well. Plus there are also different formulations for different types of water, hard, soft and classic.
We washed a large load of dirty diapers and followed their directions to the tee, which involved a pre rinse in cold with no detergent and then a follow up full wash with the Rockin’ Green. Our diapers came out as clean as a whistle with nary a stain in sight. We tried it again without the pre rinse and found that our diapers came out just as clean, so to reduce our water consumption, that’s how we continue to use the detergent. We also tried the Rockin’ Green with our regular laundry and it worked equally well and meant we didn’t need two different types of detergent.
Our one concern is the occasional powder residue that showed up on our darks. Now we are fairly certain this could be overcome if we were more patient and allowed the powder to dissolve a bit more in the water before tossing in our clothes, but sometimes we just don’t have the time, or patience, to wait.
Most of all, we were happy that we felt just a little bit cooler while doing the wash. In short…we felt that we, and our laundry, rocked!

Love this stuff. I was having some issues getting the funky smells out of my diapers, but this stuff did the trick.
