canning season

When it comes to the fall and canning season you probably think pickles, peaches and preserves. And you probably don’t think sippy cups. But now we’ve gotten our hands on EIO’s Kids Cup our cans, or jars actually, are seriously multi-tasking.
A new twist on two classics – sippy cups and canning jars – the EIO Kids Cup is a BPA, phthalate and PVC-free sippy cup that transitions kids from bottles to proper cups. It’s also spout-free and valve-free, making cleaning and keeping track of all the bits easy. The foundation is a glass 8 oz jar that comes encased in a removable silicone gripping sleeve in bright orange, purple or green with a matching plastic cap that screws onto the jar.
The ingenious design extends to the spout which requires your little one to tip the cup, rather than their head, which mimics “real” drinking and because your child doesn’t have to suck on it, as with a bottle, it’s better for their dental development.
We found it works best for little ones who have already transitioned from bottles to sippy cups. It’s also not leak-proof so can’t be thrown into your diaper bag, but we suspect the lid of an 8 oz canning jar would solve that problem. And it’s perfect for older kids who are too big for sippy cups but who you may not quite trust with cups around the house or at the table. You can also remove the cap and have them drink straight from the jar while still using the silico sleeve to make everything less slippery and likely to drop, break or tip over.
And speaking of breaking, short of throwing the EIO cup on the floor, ours has gone through all the regular bumps and bangs a sippy cup would normally encounter and it’s holding up beautifully. But should yours get broken you can just buy another 8 oz jar and use it with the sleeve and cap. We’ve mixed and matched ours with the ragtag collection of jars in our cupboard and it’s worked on every single one of them.
