Not only do your tots have lots of opportunities to put their costumes through their paces this weekend, but we’ve even found some holiday events already. Eeep! And don’t forget that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Seems like wherever you are in the city, there’s a harvest festival to enjoy! But if you’re more about shopping than pumpkins and apple cider, drop by the Children’s Pillage in the Village to stock up on gently used clothing and toys, or visit the Children’s Trunk Show and get a jump on your holiday shopping list.

Babies are messy. They get food everywhere, they never wipe their feet and they have a tendency to fill their diapers with well…a whole lot of poo. Yes, we’re talking about poo again. But if you’re honest you probably talk about it a lot more than you did pre-baby. If you use cloth diapers, one of the big challenges can be finding a detergent that gets out the stink and stain while still being friendly to both your baby’s bottom and the planet.

Fall. As much as we love the cozy sweaters, Halloween costumes, yummy comfort food and pumpkin patches, fall also brings something else to us Lower Mainlanders – rain. And with the rain comes staying indoors a little bit more than we would like. There are only so many play gyms and library storytimes you can hit before you go a little stir crazy. So why not try something different and get a little bit of your, and your little one’s, art on at Place des Arts?

We’re partial to high play-value toys that multi-task. Toys that inspire imagination instead of restrict it. Toys that can be passed down to siblings, on to friends or packed away for the next generation of players. Which is why we’ve been spending way too much time browsing the Bumblee Toys website lately.

You know that moment…you are calmly driving along with your little bundle of joy safely ensconced in their car seat, when suddenly you smell it. The blowout. The poo that oozes out of every nook and cranny, the one that you need to deal with pronto or your car will never be the same.

If you have a bookworm or two in your family, The Word On The Street is the place to be this weekend! Families can also enjoy the Ontario Science Centre for free this Saturday, meet Barbie in person, create art and puppets, and learn about sustainable city living at the Evergreen Brickworks grand opening, plus so much more. Just another fun weekend in T.O.!

Time for dinner. Again. Every night in fact. And it can stretch your creativity and patience to come up with meals that appeal to the whole family – picky eaters, pre eaters and all – so we’re always on the lookout for inspiration. Which we found in abundance in Time for Dinner, a new cookbook from the former Cookie magazine editors Pilar Guzmán, Jenny Rosentrach, and Alanna Stang.
