makeover mummy madness
Filed Under Places, Tips & Tricks | August 31, 2010
We’ll admit it. There are times when we leave the house looking as if we just rolled out of bed. Probably because we have just rolled out of bed. Not that there is anything wrong with that. We know its what is on the inside that counts – or so we keep telling our wee ones – but sometimes we would like to look a titch more put together.
Or stylish even.
And maybe get a haircut.
To that end we put ourselves in the capable hands of Kelli Chan, über stylist at Gloss Hair Salon and Nail Bar (and mum of an 18 month old) and asked her how to get simple, yet stunning, hair – and make up – for mums on the move.
Clip a pic
Come to your stylist with pictures of what you like in hand. Explain to her what you like and don’t like about the styles. She’ll tell you what she will or won’t be able to do based on your hair. She’ll also adapt it to suit with your lifestyle and needs.
Trust the expert
Put yourself in your stylist’s capable hands to get the best results. She’s a creative person who will work best if she is allowed to create her masterpiece without too many restrictions. She’s also a business person, so she knows that if you look good, she’ll look good. And you’ll come back.
Product does matter
If you use hair product, use the right one for the job. You may not want to spend on the expensive salon offerings, but make sure the product you use was designed for what you are using it for…a curl crème will not work well for straightening your hair no matter how hard you try.
Two in one for twice the fun
Use a tinted moisturizer with SPF as opposed to a heavy foundation and moisturizer combo. Your skin will thank you for it and you will save time by removing extra steps in the make up process.
Sparkle as opposed to glitter
We like shiny things, but glitter is for little girls and rock stars. Add a subtle shine and a bit of brightness to your face with an illuminating powder on your cheekbones and at the inner corners of your eyes.
We leave you with her final thought:
“Rock the bob, or roll with a mullet. Have fun with your style and let your image empower you.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, though we’ve not seen a lot of people who can pull off a mullet with panache…
