Remember those awkward portrait studio photos from your youth that often involved polyester and forced smiles? Well, we can’t do anything about the polyester, but Bopomo Pictures has established themselves in Vancouver as a fun alternative to department store studios, offering a fun, flexible, stylish and reasonably-priced studio experience. And they’ve just opened a second location in South Surrey’s Shops at Morgan Crossing.
A light, bright, slightly bigger sister to their original studio it’s staffed by equally energetic, good-with-kids, patient photographers; props if you want ‘em; and a play area to keep the kids busy while you visit the viewing bar where you’re forced to choose the best photos of your tots, which is definitely the most difficult part of their sessions. Bopomo is also well stocked with frames, photo jewellery and a new collection of bags – everything from cosmetic bags to wallet to diaper bag – you can have adorned with snaps of your kids to make gift giving for the rellies easy.
They coaxed the best out of our little ones and caught their true natures with nary a forced smile or cheesy pose in sight. We weren’t feeling quite glam enough to insert ourselves into the shot, but if the bags under your eyes are smaller than the ones under ours, a family shoot is a lovely way to make sure everyone is in front of camera for a change.
We love to see local entrepreneurial mamas like Bopomo’s Elayne Wandler expanding her independent business and making her signature style more accessible around the Lower Mainland and supporting the community by throwing events like the chance for your little ones to have their pictures taken with Bobs & Lolo this weekend at the new location.
Handily right around the corner from Bopomo is Café Fresh where the cool smoothies are a great way to beat the heat after your shoot and a new outpost of Mink Chocolates will be opening at Morgan Crossing any day now as well.
