hit the road

Summer’s synonymous with family road trips and the familiar question, “Are we there yet?” Here are some fun ideas for keeping kids of all ages busy and comfortable:

Small: If you’re hitting the road with a tiny tot in tow you might want to invest in a set of Baby Hugz Huggers. The creation of two BC mums, Huggers are support cushions to help keep your baby properly positioned in car seats, bouncy chairs, strollers, cribs and high chairs or wherever they may be. When we first saw them we thought couldn’t you just use a towel? But our tester and her brand new baby put us straight. Huggers don’t fall out of the car seat or come unrolled, as towels do. They’re also super soft and stylish and are great for tummy time. Get them when your baby’s tiny, if our tester’s anything to go by, you’ll use them all the time but they’ll outgrow them fast.

Medium: For younger kids we like to stock up on basic colouring books, stickers and Recycled Eco Star Crayons. These non-toxic stars are made from recycled crayons thanks to the National Crayon Recycling Program in the US and because each star has five points, when one gets dull you’ve got more to draw with. Each box comes with 20 crayons – so there are enough to share among siblings – in lots of different colours that’ll last for a whole summer of artistic creations.

Large: As long as your kids don’t get car sick why not get your older kids doodling? Pocket Doodles for Girls and Pocket Doodles for Boys are small books that contain big ways to pass the time. Creative and engaging, girls can doodle about sleepovers, friends and dreams while boys can turn beauty queens into zombies and draw their ultimate treehouse. At just 4” x 6” they’re perfect for popping in a backpack and taking with you wherever you go. They’re definitely best for kids who are getting the hang of reading, unless you want to doodle with them, which rather defeats the purpose of keeping them busy in the car. Want to check them out? We’ve got downloadable pages from the doodle books in our blog!
