little bites

Remember the days of dining out where white tablecloths stayed white, candlelight was ambiance and not a safety hazard, and you had time for a coffee after dessert? Yeah, we do too. For many parents those days are on hold, and now the goal is to eat (quickly) without meltdowns, and to leave the restaurant pretty much the way you found it. Fast food meets the quick eats criteria, but if you want good, wholesome food (enough with deep fried everything), here are a few T.O. restaurants that will fill bellies, and love having your kids (almost) as much as you do.
Dr. Generosity
This popular Bloor West restaurant is a favourite with families – for good reason. Reasonable prices, servers who are immune to temper tantrums, a yummy kid menu (delicious homemade mac & cheese is a fave!), a family washroom, and crayons to pass the time for the little ones. They’re also happy to lock your stroller up for you while you dine.

Mama Martino’s
Run by the Martino family for over 20 years, this big and bustling restaurant serves up homemade Italian fare. From pizzas, to pastas, to parmigianas, the food is uncomplicated but tasty. But make sure you go early – because it’s such a family fave, there’s often a line up by 6pm!
624B The Queensway, Etobicoke, 416.251.3337
Poutini’s House of Poutine
All poutine, all the time, Poutini’s boasts locally sourced ingredients and products, with their signature gravies all made in house. They also have vegan poutine, smaller portions called “Teeny Weeny Tiny Poutini”, and are eco-aware with everything served in biodegradable packaging – including the straws and utensils.
1112 Queen Street West, Toronto, 647.342.3732
Buddha Dog
This isn’t your average hot dog joint. From 100% aged beef, homemade buns, and natural ingredients sourced from Prince Edward County, Buddha Dog means your kids can enjoy a guilt-free hot dog. This Zen-inspired resto has kid friendly seating and over 80 sauces to spice up your meal.
Evergreen Brick Works Market, 550 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Saturdays 8am – 1pm
