putting the cool back in drool

Babies…well…they drool.  And when they are teething, they drool even more and sometimes that drool can be a bit harsh on their skin.  So what do you do?  Tiny baby chin guard?  Wipe their face every three seconds? Snap on a perma bib? Why not try some Hazelwood?

Hazelwood is purported to have the medicinal property of neutralizing the body’s acidity, which can help things like acid reflux, heartburn and, in our tiny tester’s case, teething.  It’s been used for centuries by several First Nations communities to provide relief to teething babies, so, faced with a serious case of teething and the ensuing drool, we decided to try a hazelwood necklace grown and made in Canada by Pur Noisetier.

While we were a bit tentative at the thought of putting a necklace on a baby, we were really pleased by how unobtrusive and non-irritating it was.  Our tester doesn’t even notice he has it on. After only a few days of wear, we noticed his chin rash clear up quite markedly and his usually colicky stomach seemed to be calmer. He also looks like a very cool tiny baby surfer while wearing it.  The necklace itself comes with a quick release clasp should the baby get it caught on anything and it is small and light. And because it’s made from Hazelwood branches that don’t come into contact with the nuts from the Hazelwood bush the necklaces are safe for those with nut allergies.

The necklaces lose their effectiveness after four to six months of wear, but luckily, they are easily found at local eco-friendly baby store Little Earth in East Vancouver.  The necklaces also come in adult sizes, so we plan to get them as gifts for our pregnant mum friends who are suffering from heartburn.
