Every once in awhile a toy comes along that quintessentially reflects the season and you can’t imagine hitting the park, beach or wading pool without it. Green Toys’ Tugboat is just such a toy.

Vibrantly coloured, this sturdy tugboat has a wide spout to scoop and pour water (and realistically sand if you take it to the park) and they’ve worked a handy carrying handle into the boat’s design. The newest offering from Green Toys, like all their toys it’s made in the US from 100% recycled plastic milk containers and its PBA, PVC and phthalate-free with no external coatings. Even the packaging is made from recycled and recyclable materials that are printed with soy ink.

Meant for kids of six months and up we’ve found it holds its appeal well into the preschool years for both boys and girls. It’s accompanied us on all our summer outings from a three hour tour of the wading pool to a chilly swim in the lake and even an in depth exploration of a mud puddle when the weather was more inclement.

We were also inspired to mix a new classic with an old one and unearthed our dog-eared copy of Scruffy The Tugboat from Little Golden Books to enhance and continue the boating theme. We drew the line when it came to dressing them in sailor suits however.

And sure it screams summer but we suspect it’s a boat for all seasons and would make not only a great – and safe – bath toy but also a fun way to rinse your tot’s hair.
