mod mix up

If you’ve ever had the urge to move a wall or two in your home, add an addition, repaper your walls or just generally redecorate then you’ll understand the appeal of the Modern Play House and Play Family from the Museum of Modern Art.
MOMA’s modern play house is a compact cardboard set including six reversible sliding walls that nest when you need to store them, eight furniture pieces, six flooring options and 12 “design details” aka reusable, home décor themed stickers all of which add up to endless slightly sixties style at home permutations. Your options become even more varied when you add in the modern play family of two adults and three children, plus a dog, cat, doghouse and reusable hair, clothing and accessories. It all brings a whole new meaning to mix and match.
But don’t just take our word for it, for a bit of Friday fun we thought we’d do something a little different and include this video showing you just how many possibilities this set really offers:
The sets are perfect for summers on the go as you can tuck them all away and take them along to wherever you’re headed. We would, however, recommend these for destinations rather than journey because of all the little pieces that have the potential to go missing. And they won’t last forever, so be sure to pull them out at a strategic moment. Speaking of mixing and matching, our tiny architect and interior designer-testers incorporated the dolls and furniture in with their regular doll house, creating a whole new blended design aesthetic.
If only it was this easy to redecorate in real life.
