Contest: UBC Botanical Garden Young Explorers Summer Day Camps
Filed Under Contests | May 10, 2010
This contest runs from May 10th – June 7th, 2010
In this great contest UBC Botanical Garden is giving one lucky camper (and parents!) a free one weeklong session in their brand new Young Explorers Summer Day Camp (valued at $200) plus there’s a fun runner up prize of tickets for up to 5 people to their fabulous Greenheart Canopy Walkway (valued at $100).
Their Young Explorers Summer Day Camp is a week long environmental and recreational adventure for children from seven to 11. The camp will create life-long connections with nature, wildlife, plants, science, and the environment through games, crafts and exploration in their 44.5 hectare (110 acre) Garden, the Greenheart Canopy Walkway and the UBC campus.
You can find heaps of info on their camps and other educational programming on ubcbotanicalgarden.org. Heck, you might even find a relaxing getaway course for a grownup night off just for you thanks to their adult programming like the new Yoga in the Garden course.
So how can you get your name in the draw for the Young Explorers Summer Day Camp from UBC Botanical Garden? Leave a comment here about what you love about the Garden or visit their website and look at the “Botany Photo of the Day” and come back here to this contest on yoyomama and post about your favourite photo and why you like it. Get an extra entry each for following UBC Botanical Garden on Facebook (mention yoyomama) and twitter (again mention yoyomama).
Prize package includes: Free admission for one child to attend a day camp during the week of their choice ($200 value). Child must meet camp eligibility requirements such as age and the prize package must be redeemed summer 2010. In addition they’ll be giving away a second prize, tickets for up to 5 people to their Greenheart Canopy Walkway ($100 value), to one lucky runner up.
The camps are already filling up fast so don’t wait until June 7th to see if you’ve won to register, because if you win and you’re already registered they’ll refund your registration fee for one week. You’ve got nothing to lose!
The winner will be randomly drawn on June 8, 2010. Please note: To be eligible for this contest you must use a valid email address as that is how we’ll contact the winner.
p.s. the garden just launched a new email newsletter with updates on what’s in bloom, special events, courses, sales and more. Sign up here!

Let us know what you think or share your great finds with us so we can share them with other Vancouver mothers!

We love the treetop adventure and the apple festival!
This is a very cool contest!
The treetop adventure is incredible.
I love the pictures of the Wilson’s spruce! Normally people take pictures of flowers but to see such a beautiful picture taken of a Spruce tree and its buds is eye catching! I love it! We also love the treetop adventure!
Great contest! I love getting in the garden with the kids. My daughter is the biggest helper. Yesterday she helped me sow Swiss Chard, and plant the cucumbers and marigolds. A gardener in training for sure!
That Pelargonium ‘Captain Starlight’ is stunning!
Excellent contest! We’re so lucky to live in a city with so many wonderful gardens! We love the magnolia trees in bloom during winter in the UBC Botanical Gardens. It inspired us to get our own magnolia tree!
Loved this photo of the day: Picea wilsonii
It is absolutely gorgeous and I love the reddish immature male cones. Quite a contrast to the green of the rest of the pine tree!
Just became a ‘fan’ (LIKE) UBC Botanical Garden on Facebook. Wasn’t sure where I was supposed to mention that I did that (there or here!?)
Apple festival has to be our favourite.
But also the photo of the day was mighty spectacular – Iris as it reminded me of images my mother takes of her own wonderful garden.
love having camps that get kids out in nature all day – its hours of fun exploring the garden for them. And the kids have eager to check out the canopy walk ever since I showed them your pictures on the yoyoblog so this would be a double win!
My photo choice is “urnula craterium”. What a unique and earthy little fungus.
Checked out the camps and they sound great. thanks for the info.
Great contest. My children and I LOVE the treetop adventure!!!
My photo choice is “Iris aphylla” — my girls would say it reminds them of a fairyland.
What I love about the Garden is the Greenheart Canopy Walkway.
As for the Botany Photo of the Day, I like the Temblor Range. I don’t think I have seen rolling hills of yellow like that before. Beautiful!
I was at the garden for a fieldtrip last week. The kids loved it, and the content was excellent. A great blend of environmental stewardship, creepy-crawlie observation, and fun, all in sweet, fresh air!
My heart raced on the Walkway, but oh, what a lovely scene below! (when I dared to look down!)
Wow, the photo of ‘Tremblor Range’ is amazing! To be able to see that view even once would be grand!
Thanks for the contest, my son would LOVE to be able to attend this excellent camp!
Me and my children come from a small country with not a lot of open spaces or big trees. I love the old trees, the smell of freshness and all the wonderful simple adventures my kids have when we visit the gardens.
Great contest!
Our whole family loves the UBC Botanical Garden (and gardens in general).
I think the picea wilsonii is a particularly beautiful plant on the “Botany Photo of the Day” page…. :)
My kids would enjoy this . . .hard part would be picking who to send!
